About this app

Gym Geek is the smart calorie counter that keeps your weight goal on track. For weight loss, maintenance or weight gain. Track calories by scanning barcodes, searching our food database or using Quick Track.

1) Set up your weight plan

Enter your age, gender, height and current weight to start your weight plan. Then choose how quickly you want to lose or gain weight, from 0.5 lb per week to 2 lb per week.

2) Phase in

If you choose to phase in while losing weight, you'll start by maintaining your current weight. Over the phase in period, your calorie goal will gradually decrease to your target rate of weight loss.

Phase in over 1 or 2 weeks for the best results. Although you won't see results on day 1, you're more likely to stick to the plan.

Phasing in avoids sudden changes to your diet and dampens your feelings of hunger.

3) Track your calories

Track your calories by scanning barcodes, searching our 3.8 million item food database or using the Quick Track tool.

The app automatically switches between Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

4) Smart Calorie Adjustments

Don't worry about being 100% accurate. Gym Geek uses Smart Calorie Adjustments to update your calorie goal as you lose or gain weight.

Track your weight often (at least weekly) for the best results.

it's hard to copy meals over from the previous days. it's also hard to adjust portion size. I have to do odd calculations, where in other apps I can select grams, oz, fl oz etc. not here. there's a lot not a lot of stuff in their database so I find myself adding things in quite a bit. additionally, there's only trackers for fat, carbs and protein. WHERE IS THE FIBER. colon cancer in young adults is on the rise. I find it odd that an app that helps you track what you eat would neglect that.

Not bad for what it does; the continual adjustments are great when your weight loss isn't linear. But the lack of connectivity to Health Connect is a minus, as is the lack of nutrition tracking (you can only track kcal/protein/fat/carbs. Subscription gets you what other apps give you for free. I doubt I will stick with this even though the adjustments excited me.

I regret paying for this. The calorie tracking is great in terms of giving a calorie window, and slowly easing into a calorie deficit, but searching for even basic products is so annoying. The scanner rarely works for me, and the suggestions are ridiculous. For example I search 'subway chicken teriyaki' and the top result is a BBQ sandwich from Trader Joe's. It's instead the 14th entry, and apparently a 6" sub is only 133 calories. Guess I can eat 6 of them for dinner.
