Armed Police Training Institute was setup initially under the 1st Bn. SAF Indore for training of the armed police personnel working in Madhya Pradesh Police. On the recommendation of the 7th Finance Commission, keeping in view the requirements of expansion and training in the police force, especially for the armed police force, An Armed Police Training Institute was established in the year 1980 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. This institution was given the status of Armed Police Training College in the year 1988. Subsequently in the year of 2003, this institution was named as Rustamji Armed Police Training College in the memory of Shri K.F. Rustamji former IGP of Madhya Pradesh Police and founder of Border Security Force (BSF).
