Hark is a new way to experience the best of podcasts. Hark editors are podcast-obsessives who clip moments of podcast genius and curate them into Harklists - our own take on podcast mixtapes. Each day, we create Harklists to make you laugh, give you multiple perspectives on a topic, and find your next favorite show. All in less time than it takes to listen to a single episode.

And when you love a clip so much you don’t want it to stop, Hark will play you the full episode, and you can even subscribe to the podcast. Because, oh yeah, Hark’s a full-featured podcast app too.

I really, truly want to like the app. I really like the premise of the app, but the execution has been lacking for years. The user Library of podcasts almost never loads without serious coaxing, and sometimes will not load at all. On occasion, the app likes to pretend as if the user has signed out, despite having signed in mere minutes ago. The speed adjustments are not granular enough. Worst of all, the issues listed above have been issues since the app was released in 2021.

Hark has been a fabulous way for me to explore new podcasts through their "daily hark" feature. I always get a little excited seeing what is new for the day! It also is a traditional "pod catcher" for all my subscriptions. The bookmark option makes it helpful to save some podcasts for later. I wish there was a way to have a "newest favorites" type playlist that always had the most recent episode for my commute, but custom playlists would work too. Some technical issues give a 4/5 rating.

Absolutely love the concept, design, and execution of the app - after two days of using it, I've found podcasts and episodes I 100% wouldn't have found elsewhere. One major nit though - "skipping forward" on my headphones and galaxy watch skip to the next podcast whereas other apps enable me to skip 30s forward. I wish I could configure the option since 90% of the time I just want to fast-forward through something (like an ad or a portion of the podcast I don't care about).
