About this game

Hero Generations is an innovative and award-winning Roguelike/4X Strategy game where every turn is one year of your life.

Explore, find a mate, build a home, and raise a child before you die to keep your legacy going. Hero Generations is simple yet deep: 4X Strategy on the individual level. Each turn is a meaningful choice, without the tedious micromanagement.

LIMITED LIFESPAN AND PERMADEATH
Each move equals one year of your hero's life. Think carefully about how you spend the hero's time. Explore the world for fame and fortune, but make sure to find a mate before it's too late!

GENERATIONS, MATING, AND HAVING CHILDREN
Find a mate, start a family, have a child. Then take control of that child in that same world! Choosing the right mate is key, as inheritable traits (special abilities) make your child more powerful and prepared.

EXPANSIVE OVERWORLD
Each world is procedurally generated with towns, forests, ancient ruins, heroes, and more. Discover all 6 unique Biomes (Forest, Desert, Meadow, Island, Swamp, and Volcano) through a giant overworld map.

6 STRATEGIC PATHS
Choose your path to greatness. Gain victory through Strength, Love, Exploration, Wealth, Fame, or Building.

CITY CRAFTING SYSTEM
Construct any of 19 legacy lasting buildings next to towns to give future generations useful resources, powerful new abilities, and more attractive mates! Experiment with different combinations to craft amazing secret town cultures, like the Castle, Dark Cathedral, or Fortress!

MEANINGFUL
A surprising and thought-provoking experience, that explores themes of death, legacy, family, love, and more. A Gorgeous hand drawn art style creates an exciting and unique fantasy setting.

Great idea put into an bad game system/design! If fixed, it has a chance to be a great game. Too many bugs where the player can get stuck without even knowing. The combat system is literally luck based. Not to mention the countdown of the clock you're trying to beat, making the game almost unplayable. I hope it's fixed soon

A game that Just Doesn't Work. I don't mean that it's buggy, in fact the coding is rock solid. I mean that the ideas in here haven't been properly thought out. The combat system is stupid; you and your opponent roll the dice, and the lower roll takes damage. But powering up your attack stat only increases your maximum roll. Your minimum roll is always zero, which means you can have four times higher attack than your enemy and still lose. While it does also go the other way- you can win against much stronger opponents- you also have an overall life/time limit, while the enemies just respawn. So there's no point to fighting unless enemies are in your way, and even then you're better off going around. The other major mechanic is building cities, but this is also unsatisfying because the upgrades decay unless you're around to repair them. And you can't because the timer means you have to keep moving on to the next world. It all adds up to an unsatisfying experience where you never feel like you're accomplishing anything.

The game is fun, but things aren't explained as to what they are. The tutorial gives you a basic understanding. I started my first game in basic mode which seemed easier than the Easy setting. Everything is too random and feels pointless to bother with. Mainly a fighting game thats highly unbalanced.
