Note: Current app version uses English locale (i.e. it uses a dot as a decimal separator) even if you choose a non-English locale (i.e. one that uses a comma as a decimal separator).
Tablet-capable! App tested on Nexus 7 and Android 4.4.2 Kit Kat.
If you know what works for you or a friend with a given chainring size, and you are thinking of changing to a different chainring size, but preserving a similar gear ratio, then this is EXACTLY what you need.
Now includes chainring sizes from 34 to 54 inclusive. If you are interested in BMX sizes please check out the companion app at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.westcoastwebworks.bmxgearratiocalculator
Simple, elegant, efficient, and reliable; if an app could be a bicycle this one would be a fixie...
Do not miss out on this great app and be part of the growing bike fan community!
You can download now the app for your smartphone iOS and Android platforms available.
Except from custom hub values values from the following brands are added to the Spoke Calculator:
Chris King, Hope, Nuke Proof, DT Swiss, White Industries, Phil Wood
Except from custom rim values values from the following brands are added to the Spoke Calculator:
Mavic, SUN Ringlé, DT Swiss, Stan's NoTubes, WTB, Halo
If there are hubs or rims missing, email where I can find it´s values so I can add them.
You can try and decide if you like it enough to pay for the better / supported version. All Feedback welcome.
So far 1 positive and 1 negative response. My answer to the negative one: the calculation is correct, only in Metric Units. I will add imperial as soon as I have some spare time to develop it!
Improved interface. This app is light: only 44Kb!
Calculates gear inches, gear ratios, and skid patches for bicycles. Great for fixed gear, single speed, and geared riders.
This is a pretty little tool for calculating the right frame size for your bike.
It doesn't matter which type of bicycle you want to calculate. Most bike types are available in this app.
Just scroll the wheels to the right value and you will see all results for bike & frame size.
The calculation of frame sizes is done by the german method, this is beloging to the seat tube from middle of bottom bracket to top of seat tube
In addition to our cost free version, we developed this PRO version which contains many further interesting functions and features.
1) Frame calculation for MTB, Fully, Hardtail, Race bike, Trekking bike, Triathlon.
2) Additional calculations for Handlebar, Stem, Crank and Top tube
3) Choose your favourite colour from a range of nearly 200 colours (RAL Classic) and see the result presented in an amazing and detailed 3D bike model. Try one, two or three fingers to rotate, zoom and move it).
4) 5 Languages integrated (English, German, Spanish, Italian, French)
There is no easier way to design your own bike. Enjoy the APP.
Further functions can be added. Just let us know your suggestions.
This software contains 3 formulas that are useful to cyclists.
1) Gear ratio calculator (in inches)
2) Spoke length calculator
3) Vertical dropout chain stay length calculator for bikes with vertical dropouts for those wishing to fit a single (usually fixed) gear.
The gear ratio calculator calculates gear ratios in inches. The wheel size is entered (in inches) and up to 1 to 3 chain rings can be entered and up to 1 to 10 sprockets. Selecting Calc on the menu will then display the ratios.
The spoke length Calculator calculates spoke lengths. First select if the hub is symmetrical (same both sides) or asymmetrical (different both sides. this means that either the flange diameter is different or the center to flange is different or both). Then enter the flange width and center to flange (for both sides if necessary), Rim Diameter and spoke hole diameter. select the number of spokes, the n select calc on the menu. a Table of all the permissible crosses will be displayed. There is a clear option on the menu too. The input region and the result table are scrollable.
The number of available crosses displayed is worked out by dividing the total number of spokes by 9. So a 32 spoke wheel should have a maximum cross of 3, 36 and 40 spoke wheels have a maximum cross of 4, and a 48 spoke wheel has a maximum cross of 5
Vertical dropout chain stay length calculator only deals with the theoretical side of matching a set of sprocket/chain ring combinations to specific length of chain stay.
In practice this is still very difficult to achieve. Firstly it is impossible to measure the chain stays accurately enough to guarantee a match.
Secondly the mathematics assumes that the sprockets and chain rings are perfectly round which unfortunately is frequently not the case, and that the chain has not stretched (1 Link is exactly 1 Inch long).
It will still involve a lot of experimentation to find a working sprocket and chain ring combination.
What this equation allows you to do is once you have found a working combination of any gear (It does not have to be the gear you require). You can then look up other gear ratios that will fit the chain stay length.
Unfortunately it does not guarantee that the gear you desire can be found.
The software enables the user to enter a range of:
1) Chain ring sizes
2) Sprocket sizes
3) Chain stay lengths
4) Desired gears ratios (in inches)
5) Half links
Half links can also be included into the calculations. These can be found for 1/8th chains although they are not commonly used. So by default this option is left unchecked.
If large ranges are entered (particularly chain stay lengths) then it could take a while (around 30 seconds in the worst cases) to calculate results. So I’d advise keeping the chain stay range down to less than half an inch which should be more than enough for the required purpose.
On the results page the following abbreviations are used:
C R - Chain Ring
Spr or Sprock – Sprocket.
The buttons at the bottom of the results page enable you to sort the data by Chain Ring, Sprocket, Gear or chain stay length.
The results screen also shows the number of links in the chain.
Operation of the camera is possible by a smart phone through Wi-Fi connection.
Through the application, camera settings can be changed, the recording video angle can be set, video recording can be started and stopped, video and picture files can be previewed from the file list and the sensor information from an ANT+ bicycle computer can be included with the video.
