This app excels in a critical way, by allowing users to comment about current water conditions. It is highly recommended for this feature alone. Arizona is the second most arid state. Fidelity of track to GPS position is excellent. Overlay of topographic maps is good too. This app seems to be optimized for the iPhone. I say this because it takes 15 seconds to load on my Galaxy S5. Still, I use this app for planning and route corrections because of critical water issues on the AZT.
Currently in Jacobs Lake, wrapping up my 4th AZT thruhike. This is the first time I've ever used a hiking app; I wasn't sure I would get much value out if. I was wrong. Water updates and easy to access town info are great and I find myself using the app regularly. I'll buy other Guthook apps for future hikes when I can, for sure.
The app worked great. We used for the first 3 passages of the AZT. There were several places where the trail was overgrown and hard to follow. The app helped steer us in the right direction. We had to go off trail a few times due to overgrowth and we found where to reconnect with the trail using the app.
Most accurate were the mileage locations as the hike developed. Most valuable were the blog comments particularly providing up to date information on water caches and sources.
Kind of clunky and slow.
Love this app...This is a must app if you are hiking the AZ Trail.
