About this app

A dictionary lists the words of a language (typically in Alphabetical Order) and gives their meaning, or gives the equivalent words in a different language, often also providing information about pronunciation, origin, and usage.

The Hindko Urdu Lughat (Dictionary) Android App is an interactive App that provides the users with the facility of searching a Hindko word with its pronunciation, Urdu meaning and explanation. An interesting feature of the dictionary is that it allows user to select his favorite words

The Hindko Urdu Lughat Android App is a project of Gandhara Hindko Academy which is a Public-Private partnership project. Its funding agency is Higher Education Department of Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gandhara Hindko Board, Peshawar is its executing agency. Mr. Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi (Former Chief Secretary of KP) is the Chairman of Gandhara Hindko Board, Peshawar.

For the data set the dictionary composed by Dr. Ilahi Bakhsh Akhtar Awan is selected. There are around Twenty Three Thousands words in the dictionary. At Gandhara Hindko Academy the inclusion of more words is continued under the supervision of Mr. Muhammad Zia-ud-Din (General Secretary Gandhara Hindko Board) and it is expected that the newer version will have around One Hundred Thousand Hindko words.

Dr. Muhammad Adil presented the idea of the interactive Hindko Urdu Lughat and proposed a soft ware design for the App.

Mr. Omer Rauf designed the database for the App and took responsibility of an overall management of software project completion.

Ms. Aqsa Gul coded the database and she along with Mr. Saif Ullah has entered the data in the database.

Mr. Muhammad Fawad has designed the code and the front end of the App.

As the data for the App was in Inpage format which is not Unicode so, Mr. Mudassar Zeb composed the data in Unicode format.

Mr. Ali Awais Khayal has designed the logo and images for the App.

This App is a sole property of Gandhara Hindko Board.

Ratings and reviews

UI is not very good often contains words from other languages and instead of showcasing their corresponding word in Hindko it just gives the meaning of that word. Would be nice if they made a similar UI to Google Translate

I am from Peshawar and a hindko speaker but sadly now we don't speak hindko in our homes as mother tongue which is why our pronunciation is not accurate so, it would be appreciated if you can add voices for the pronunciation and add sentence and phrases.

Very bad representation of hindko words. There is alot of difference between urdu and hindko. This app does not show that. Also u cannot write hindko with urdu alphabets. Better to use gurmukhi or hindi.
