Enhance your day out in the Park, explore the Gardens before a sporting event, or tour the Gardens virtually from home.
These unique gardens are a testimony to Britain’s long history of exploration and trade, and bring to life the major climatic and cultural zones of the world through a rich planting scheme of exotic and native plants.
Through this app you can:
Journey through each climatic zone – Europe, North America, Southern Hemisphere and Asia – by exploring the stories behind a variety of rare, international plants. Listen to exclusive audio interviews with the garden designers describing how they were inspired by plant communities in the wild, and hear how the gardens enhance biodiversity. Learn how to plant these plants at home – and recreate your own 2012 Gardens.
Share your experience with the 2012 Gardens by sending Greetings postcards to your friends with illustrations, photos and plant information via email, Facebook and Twitter, and customise your posts with personal messages. For those at the Games you can share your own photos of the Gardens.
Look at a rich slideshow of imagery tracing the design and construction of the Gardens.
Listen to audio interviews with garden designers about each climatic zone; design inspirations behind the Gardens; biodiversity; the use of exotic species; planting tips and more.
Learn more about the Gardens including how many of these plants were discovered through Britain’s long history of plant collecting; detailed landscape architectural drawings; and full plant lists providing information on how to plant every plant included in the Gardens.
The 2012 Gardens app is available in English only, and available to anyone visiting the Games or simply interested in the Gardens.
