Coupon system is a mess I purchased te coupon for the railpass search function and the payment went through but the coupon didn't. I still can't access the railpass search function and the English instructions on that page don't make any sense. I expected higher quality from such a large/well respected company
Great Gets me wherever I've tried to go. You can customize what kind of train you want to take, and if you spell the station wrong it will suggest alternatives. Everything I'd ask for in a train app.
"Japan Trains" app works better The main problem with this app, right now, is that it doesn't work with Android 6.0. There are other problems that were apparent, back when it used to work. The most glaring issue was that typing the first few letters of a station name didn't bring up a list of suggestions, so if you didn't know the romanized spelling of a station name, you had to play hit and miss. Avoid this one. If the next update includes station suggestions, it may be worth looking at.
Functional and accurate, but some annoying quirks. I use this app regularly, and I have always found it to be reliable and accurate. The information given is great, including platform number. 2 annoying things. 1. Unless you spell the station name absolutely correctly it just wont deliver. Recently I couldn't find information the station I was actually at. The spelling was spot on, but nothing. I had to search by GPS. When it located the station, I saw that this app substitutes "n" for "m". Very frustrating, and makes it impossible to search for certain stations when you have the very station name in front of you (unless you happen to know of this peculiarity) How about an update that can make "best guesses" based on your input. 2. It seems not to show routes with transfer times of less than a few minutes. Given the punctuality of the system here the is no need to omit trains with a 2 or three minute transfer wait, especially when many times those transfers are only different sides of the same platform. If the concern is for members of the public who have mobility issues, how about a simple "short transfer time" warning on the journey.
Switch between from-to This app is great. It provides reliable information in English. One big issue I have with it though is that there is not possibility to easily switch from-to stations (if I went from Ueno-Tokyo, then I wanted to come back from Tokyo-Ueno, I will have to rewrite Tokyo in the 'from' field and Ueno in the 'to' field, instead of quickly pushing a 'switch' button since the stations' names are already there...)
No way that I can find to enable the JR Pass checkbox. I am willing to pay, but how to do it is a mystery.
