I've been using a few apps of this kind in the past couple of years. Geo Tracker is definitely the number 1. It does what it's supposed to do and does it well with hardly any issues at all. The only problem I often encountered was the lost GPS signal while recording a route on long journey. But that may be the fault of my cheap Alcatel Flash phone and not Geo Tracker's. The user interface is beautiful and very intuitive. The best app of its kind.
I love using Geo Tracker for hiking. It has great features for reporting distances, speed, elevation gain, and many others. I will often download aerial images before a hike and then can see my route and progress in perspective. The tracking is a bit off on challenging areas like multiple switchbacks, but that is more a limitation of the GPS than the app. Overall this is a well built and useful app.
I found this app as a replacement for Google's My Tracks. When I first began using it a year ago I had issues with this app dropping the GPS signal and not recording the entire track. Now, with a newer Samsung phone I have had no more problems with that and I use the app almost every day for running, hiking and biking. I really like how easy it is to export tracks and waypoints as .gpx files, and that I can import .gpx files. On my wishlist: being able to make the tracks different colors when I'm displaying more than one track.
It's easy to use. For walks the best accuracy you can select in the "Record Settings" is + or - 10 metres but in practice it's much better than that, the results look good to + or - 2 meters or even a little better than that. You can send the completed .gpx tracks to your computer using the email function and the .gpx files are in a format that is recognised by Google Maps ("My Maps") and by the MapSphere GPS Track Editor v.1.15 beta (build 141) desktop app. The .gpx files are not recognised by the OS Maps app (subscription service to Ordnance Survey in the UK.)
Love the app..Idea for improvement Would it he possible to integrate the pics we take on a trip and show exactly where they were taken on the map?? My only complaint is the top speed. I use it on a sportbike and it has never read a top speed over 108 mph, even if my speedo says it hit 140.
The app is good provides almost accurate positions, but the only thing i expected is to export the map with my route marked on it on my device. Though there is an option mentioned as export to folder but it doesn't work and it gives a message as [ Turn on document in settings > Installed app first] . Please tell me a fix for this asap, I urgently need it. Thanks. Overall its a very good app.
