Fujimae-Higata is a tidal flat of about 300ha that extends to the mouths of the Shonai, Shin, and Nikko rivers in western Aichi prefecture.
It is one of the leading migratory bird relay points in Japan, and many waterfowl fly every year.
It makes a round trip between breeding areas in the northern hemisphere such as Siberia and wintering areas in the southern hemisphere such as Oceania.
It is an important relay point for sandpipers and plovers.
It is also registered in the Ramsar Convention.
