Emergency chat can be used in any situation where speech is impossible but communication is still necessary.
The splash screen has a base text that explains to the person you gave your phone to that you can't use speech and want to use this app to communicate. The default text is aimed at people experiencing an autistic meltdown, where their speech centres stay non-functional for a while even after they've recovered.

Both the title and text can be adjusted in the settings(accessed with your menu button or long-press) to be whatever you want the person you give your phone to to know.
You can then continue to the next screen which has a simple chat client.

C-PTSD and Panic Disorder I have C-PTSD and Panic Disorder and often become nonverbal when I start having a panic attack/flashbacks. Now I can feel confident that others will be able to understand what's going on and how to help me when I can't help myself, let alone explain what's going on. This is an awesome app, thank you so much for this!

Awesome idea Very useful. Great idea. Only wish you could have more than one splash as I have two disorders that effect speech. And separate screens would be easier than putting both options on one.

Great App!!! Simple interface that makes what often is a difficult situation a little easier. I get debilitating anxiety attacks and am going to school to work in special education. I would love to see the addition of a picture communication feature. Having pictorial capabilities would really help with young students who struggle to read, even though they may not need assistive technology in other situations.

Thank you, great app! Thank you for this amazing app. I have selective mutism, so I can't talk in certain situations to certain people due to my anxiety. This will make it so much easier when I can't talk. It will be so helpful, I've needed an app like this for ages! I've just downloaded it and haven't properly used it yet, but I know I'll have to use it a lot and it will make more people understand and help me. Thank you so much!

Awesome app! Definitely grateful for an idea such as this. It's something I can definitely recommend to my students and their parents. I just wish it was also compatible with the iPhone so there could be even more users benefiting from such a useful tool :)

Having multiple launchers is going to be the big feature in the next update. It's still in the planning stage(release date probably somewhere at the end of September/start of October), but know that it is coming up.

The iOS version is almost finished and will be submitted to the App Store in two days. It will probably take 1-2 weeks after that for Apple to review and accept.
You can keep up with updates on the facebook page: http://facebook.com/emergencychatapp
Help I'm stuck on the aspie page. I have anxiety and want to use that. Long pressing doesn't change it...
J_Gamer August 5, 2015
Long press on the title(Aspie Meltdown) should get you in the settings.
If you have a hardware menu button you can use that to access the settings as well.
Perfect for when I go back to school 😺 I can already tell this is going to be really useful once August rolls around and I'm back to being around PEOPLE 🙀 It would be nice if I could change the size of the text in the header and the back-and-forth, as well as the colors of the back-and-forth boxes, because that default turquoise is too bright for me under NORMAL circumstances.
Has helped my Aspie son immensely! I would rate this app 5 stars if it just kept an archive of the texts. I want to implement this as part of my son's BIP within his IEP at school. Currently, his BIP states that during a meltdown staff is not to converse verbally but instead to have a paper and pen available. If this app could store the messages I would be elated to begin using this with his support team at school. Is that something that could ever be a possibility?

Thank you for the suggestion. This feature seems useful to me as well, so it's added to the roadmap for version 2.0. Thank you Very useful. Being able to swipe right to show a different splash page for ppl with multiple disorders would be great. But it helps so much as is

Thank you for your review, it's greatly appreciated.
The next update(2.0) will have the option to make multiple launchers for different splash screens.
Great app but... I found it would be better if it allowed the reader using the splash screen to view more text if the user would like more than a tiny paragraph. I feel one paragraph does not do a person justice in explaining any sort of issue if it's an issue that they struggle with enough to make use of this app. But maybe i just totally failed at using it lol. Also think the reader should be able to touch the splash screen without so easily enabling edit mode.

The text area will be scrollable in the next update, and the long-press to open settings is necessary for phones without a hardware menu button. This will be fixed in a later update.
This is fixed as of version 1.2
Amazing but... This is amazing from time to time I find myself unable to hear or speak properly during an hypoglycemic attack. My only problem is that there is very little room for text, and my phone is actually quite large so the text comes up significantly larger than normal on the splash screen. Could there possibly be a text size changer added to the settings?
J_Gamer July 22, 2015
The splash screen text area will be improved in my next update, and I'll be sure to include a setting for text size.
This is now fixed in version 1.2
Good for trach patients, too. Thank you for making the title page adjustable. I was able to put up my own text for when I'm unable to talk because of choking and excess phlegm. I explained how they can help and that I might have to expose my stoma to get control. This would help anyone unable to talk, temporarily or not. Kudos! Galaxy Tab 8.4

Would you mind sharing a screenshot of your title page that I could use publicly to show people how this is used in a different scenario than my own?
Great for Asthma and Anxiety too!! Thank you!!! Just found this app, would have benefitted from it last night. Will send you a screen shot of my first page message. Looking forward to the updates.
J_Gamer July 22, 2015
Screen shot's been added to the store page, thank you!
Helps me so much I have panic disorder, anxiety and PTSD. It makes life really difficult as other sufferers will tell you. I didn't go outside for a long time and so no one other than my mother really knows how to calm me down when I find myself in the middle of a meltdown. This app has enabled me to help whoever I'm with, help me when panic attacks rear their ugly head. Thank you so much. This means that people won't get angry with me anymore when I don't respond to them because they don't know what's happening to me.
I love the idea... ...but is it possible to change the screen for someone with general anxiety/panic attacks? I struggle with OCD, and sometimes have panic attacks so bad, all I can do is cry. I would love to have a screen for that.
J_Gamer July 22, 2015
The splash screen can be configured in the settings. You can access them by either the hardware menu button on your phone or by a long press anywhere on the splash screen. Review deleted
What's New
- Added text size setting for splash screen
- Made text area scrollable
- Added a switch on chat to choose which user is typing
