Tap & Chip – Card Payments on Android
Tap & Chip helps eligible businesses accept secure contactless card payments directly on a compatible Android device, without needing a separate card terminal.
Designed for small businesses, market traders, mobile merchants, freelancers, service providers and independent retailers, Tap & Chip makes it easier to accept payments using your own connected Stripe account.
How it works
1. Create your Tap & Chip merchant account.
2. Complete Stripe onboarding.
3. Register your business or trading location.
4. Open Charge and enter the amount.
5. Ask the customer to present their contactless card, phone or supported wallet.
6. View the completed transaction and issue a receipt where supported.
Stripe Connected payments
Tap & Chip uses Stripe Connected Accounts for merchant payments.
Each merchant completes onboarding for their own Stripe account before accepting payments. Once Stripe confirms the account is ready, payments are processed through that connected Stripe account.
Merchants can access their Stripe Dashboard to review payments, balances, payouts, bank details, refunds, disputes and reports.
No website? Tap & Chip can help
Stripe may ask for a business website or online presence during onboarding.
If you already have a genuine business website, use it. If you do not have one, Tap & Chip can create a simple public merchant webpage containing your business information, products or services and contact details. The generated page can be used during Stripe onboarding where appropriate.
Merchant payouts
Merchant funds are managed through Stripe.
After a successful payment, funds may first appear as Pending before becoming Available. Stripe then sends eligible funds to the merchant's registered bank account according to the account's payout schedule.
Where available and eligible, Stripe may also offer Instant Payouts.
Payout timing depends on Stripe, the merchant's country, bank, account status and payment activity.
Wallet
The Tap & Chip Wallet helps merchants view:
• Pending balance
• Available balance
• Instant available balance where supported
• Transaction history
• Payout information
Register your payment location
Before accepting payments, merchants register a genuine business or trading location. This may be a shop, office, market, event, pop-up, mobile trading location or other suitable business location.
Built for busy merchants
Tap & Chip can be suitable for market traders, barbers, beauty professionals, food sellers, cafés, tradespeople, mobile service providers, taxi and chauffeur businesses, event traders, freelancers, independent retailers and other eligible small businesses.
Security and privacy
Payments are powered by Stripe's payment infrastructure. Tap & Chip does not store customers' full card numbers on the merchant's phone.
Merchant access is protected by a secure PIN. Merchants should also protect their Stripe account with strong login security and two-factor authentication.
Referral programme
Tap & Chip includes a referral programme. Eligible users can share their referral link, track referred merchants and view qualifying referral rewards from their referral dashboard.
Referral rewards are subject to programme rules and are not guaranteed income.
Fees
There is no monthly terminal rental from Tap & Chip. Stripe processing fees, transaction fees and applicable Tap & Chip fees may apply.
