Can't join the room?!?!? How the heck do you connect?!
This app is a great idea with terrible implementation. It WILL ruin your night. The KBox app is like what you would get if you asked a first year computer science class to write a karaoke booking app: sure, it mostly works, but obviously was written by someone who doesn't understand the basic principles of software design, karaoke, human nature, or drunk people. I laud KBox for having an app that does at least mostly work: this is the future of karaoke and it's definitely more convenient than song books. But the app is a hot mess, and in the hands of any group of not-fully-sober karaoke singers, it causes more problems than it solves. The app has five large buttons on the screen at all times which are really easy to press by mistake, and all of them will ruin friendships if accidentally pressed. They pause the song, skip the song, disable the music, restart the song, and change the volume. None of them have a confirmation. If someone touches them while searching for a song (REALLY easy to do), the current singer is going to throw punches. The app allows all members of the group to add unlimited songs anywhere in the queue, delete any song in the queue, and promote any song to the top of the queue. All anonymously. Necessary on a control panel or remote control, but in the hands of a large group of drunk people, again, these features will ruin friendships. The queue doesn't manage a rotation, or show who booked which song, simple features that I would consider must haves. The KBox database features lots of misspellings that aren't showstoppers in a book, but are when trying to use a search interface (e.g. "Roy Orbison" returns three songs but "Roy Orbisin" was apparently a prolific singer). The app connectivity is extremely laggy, with most actions taking at least five seconds to do something with no indication they are waiting. Again, in the hands of revellers, this is disastrous as people will hit almost any action multiple times. The app frequently crashes or simply loses connection. The QR code scanner to link to your room is extremely temperamental and frequently forgets what room it is linked to. The upside is, the app technically does the job and is free, but it's really the worst designed app I could imagine that still does the basics. If you are going to use this app, you are going to want to start your night with a five minute training session explaining all the ways in which using it could ruin friendships. And it will still ruin friendships.
The app puts in songs multiple times, and also messes up the order of songs. The app keeps disconnecting.
