“My Nutrition App” was designed by kidney specialists, kidney dietitians, patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and their supports to help navigate the unique challenges faced when following a kidney diet. While it was developed with the needs of individuals living with CKD in mind, it can be used by anyone wanting to track their nutrients and set personalized nutrition goals.
Users can enter food and fluid items into the “My Nutrition App” where they are analyzed for their nutritional content using the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference (SR) x. Key nutrients identified as being important by the user will be displayed for ease of tracking. Nutrition and fluid goals are easily tailored to meet your specific needs, with notifications given when targets are being approached, reached or surpassed. If you are a patient with CKD, individualized targets can be established with the support and guidance of a dietitian.
With the exception of sodium, potassium and phosphorus, targets are by default based on Canada’s Daily Values (DV) for adults 18 years and older who are not pregnant or lactating. Sodium, potassium and phosphorus targets are based on current CKD guidelines for those requiring a restriction of these nutrients.
“My Nutrition App” is not intended to replace the advice of a certified health professional and is not intended as medical advice. It should be used as a tool to assist you in reaching your nutritional goals in partnership with a dietitian, appropriate health care individual or team.
