About this game

New! You can play with friends or computer controlled AI bots, or both.

Shanghai Rummy, aka California Rummy is a form of contract rummy where you play 7 hands (or phases) and try to play all your cards and get the lowest score.

K9 Shanghai Rum is a puppy-themed version where you play against 3 AI opponents. To measure your progress, you will be training a puppy which will advance through its lessons as you learn Shanghai Rummy. Puppy raising tips come from 16 years of service-dog training experience.

This is a free, fun, table card game in the rummy family similar to Gin.

the scoring is different then how I played with my grandmother. But that is minor. A bigger issue for me is that I was not able to play the joker where I wanted at the lower end of a run when I could've gone out. The joker went to the opposite end and I could not move it. To keep the game moving, I was forced to discard. I should be able to place the joker on one end of the run or another.

Yes, you have to tap one end of the run or the other, so you do have control over that. Sorry that the game didn't allow you to undo your choice. That's a good suggestion. Thanks for the feedback

EDIT: I did find a bug - I'm able to lay down on others' melds even when it's not my turn. -- surprisingly this is the only downloadable app that I found of Shanghai rummy! the opponents are honestly really smart compared to other browser versions I've played, which I enjoy. this app has a silly old style UI but honestly in my opinion it adds to its charm haha. I love the dog trick/training context, and the customizability of opponents. thanks for making it!

Fantastic Job. This is the only Shanghai app that actually works properly and is easy to understand. I paid for ad free to enjoy more. Our family has been playing Shanghai for over 50 years at the family cabin. I will email a few minor suggestions. Thank you!!
