About this app

Take a Name is a family history app for LDS Church members who want to take their own family names to the temple. It requires a FamilySearch account with access to LDS ordinances.

Find temple ready ancestors. Take a Name searches the FamilySearch tree for your deceased ancestors and double checks that LDS ordinances are ready for the temple.

Request LDS ordinances and print temple cards – from your phone!

Try before you buy, pick your price. Try Take a Name for free! You can purchase the app when you're ready via in-app purchase.

Less time searching. More time serving. Take a Name typically delivers dozens of temple ready family names in a matter of minutes. It’s genealogy, but easier!

FamilySearch Certified. Kinpoint is a FamilySearch partner, authorized to submit names for temple work.

Data integrity. Take a Name performs a detailed set of data checks to provide confidence that an LDS ordinance is temple ready. It also excludes names of ancestors with unresolved duplicates. Take a Name does far more than simply scraping the FamilySearch website for green temples!

Spend time in the temple with your ancestors instead of outside trying to find them.

Genealogy has never been so satisfying!

When it works, its great! Developers seem to respond in about a week, which is helpful. Occasionally it can get stuck (especially after an android update 🙄 which I blame android and t-mobile, who went from being behind on updates to hyper updating way too often). After my experience with the developer, I'd say, if it's not working, let them know. They seem reasonably responsive and oriented to get it working. This app is super resourceful coordinating work across the globe quick & efficiently.

Sorry it's been down! Everything is fixed and running again. Some devices may still have an issue. We are working on it! Please let us know if you still have issues (support@kinpoint.com). We are a non-profit, and appreciate your support. Consider updating your star-review if you'd like.

No matter what device I use, it doesn't recognize my LDS account password - iPad, my android phone, my husband's phone. Very frustrating! Also, since you require a pass phone and only have a mobile app version of this product, people will be using their phone. Please, please add a way to see the password you have entered.

Tried this app again over two years after my last attempt, and although they promised improvements to the issues I had last time, I didnt find any evidence of any improvements that fixed our situation. My sons are always looking for names to bring to the temple for baptisms, and I put in the search criteria "male" and "baptisms", but it only brought back a bunch names they had shared with the temple, both genders, all having the baptism/confirmation done! Useless for helping them. Uninstalled.

Sorry you had a bad experience. The behavior you're seeing is a requirement of FamilySearch. For members having a large number of names already reserved, even if shared with the temple, we're required to offer those names first. Try running the app using one of your son's accounts, where you don't already have a lot of names reserved.
