I accidentally stepped on my kobo, breaking the screen, while I was on the airplane to South East Asia for a two week vacation. I remembered the Kobo app while I was sitting in the hotel and was very pleased to see it syncs flawlessly with my ereader. With my phone in airplane mode, it was barely a draw on the battery and I was able to read the whole trip. Great app! Super happy with it.
This is a great reading app and I'm rooting for Kobo amongst competitors like Amazon and Google. Please add the option to change font color especially on the night mode. White text on black hurts the eyes as opposed to green text. Also there has to be a better way for searching or skimming pages. Google has a nice feature for this. Love the dedicated Kobo eReaders however I feel the app needs some work to keep up with at least Google's Play Books app in some regards.
This company did a great job of taking over when Sony Reader went under. I remember being concerned that a new company would carry my library over and be as easy to use. The transition was seamless, my online library remained intact and I was then and am still very happy with my service. It's a great ebook app, and book prices are some of the most affordable I've seen, and they have a good rewards program to boot.
All in all a great reading app. Highlighting a word shows it's dictionary meaning but not it's translation like play books does. Navigating through the book is also difficult as it happens a page or a chapter at a time. I'd still choose kobo over play books if I can save money, or can't find the book I'm looking for in play.
I was really looking forward to using this app but my email address is linked to a DEACTIVATED Facebook account and Kobo won't allow me to create an account without now going through Facebook and verifying my email address with them! I do not wish to use Facebook anymore and now cannot use Kobo because of it. Very disappointing indeed.
I love this app. It's easy and intuitive to use and the night mode is a great one for reading at night without disturbing your partner! My biggest complaint is that the cost of books seems to be getting steadily further and further apart from the Amazon counterpart making the Kindle look rather attractive for long term benefits. Secondly it would also be nice to be able to have a central cloud storage for imported books and a sync option. As a book reviewer I often receive ARC copies and to not be able to sync my imported reads across devices, whole not a deal breaker, can be less than ideal.
