About this app

Learn how to manage and improve mental health and build resilience through effective dialogue practices for yourself or with loved ones.

The YMCA Dinner Table Resilience app acts as a centralized place for anyone to utilize useful mental health resources that can be practiced right at our very own dinner tables to help build resilience in yourself and others. Mental health is a critical component of overall health and wellbeing; one cannot be well without maintaining the wellness of the mind, body, and soul. This app brings families, friends, and loved ones together in helpful and effective dialogue, intended to spark conversation about the importance of maintaining strong mental health and how to build resilience within yourself.

The app features YMCA’s video series with Sarah Johnson, Mental Health Director at the La Crosse Family YMCA, which focuses on facilitating conversation centered around bettering mental health practices. The app includes the entire video series with Johnson, detailed skills sheets corresponding to videos that encourage meaningful conversation, and a handful of other helpful resources you can use on your own or with others.

The app is broken down into three categories; Green Light Skills, Yellow Light Skills, and Red Light Skills. All three categories include a series of videos with topics ranging from emotion identification, coping mechanisms, to expressive and acceptance skills. Within each group is a sectioned list of videos, organized numerically, which all cover different topics. Green Light Skills videos cover lighter, less severe topics, Yellow Light Skills work through some more intense issues, while Red Light skills discuss emergency situations. Each video is paired with a skills sheet intended to encourage conversation about the given topic. These skills sheets can be completed alone or with a group.

In addition to the skills practices, the app also includes resources for anyone who may need them. This includes emergency contacts, different mental health hotlines, and other helpful places users can go to get the help they, or someone else, may need. Likewise, the app is also a great resource for YMCA members as it includes links to all YMCA programming, contact information, and membership information.
