The application allows users to record sightings of specific alien species (IAS) present in Greece, as well as the American mink. Users can report a sighting, pinpoint its exact location and include a photo of the species for verification through the mobile app. Registration is optional. In addition, animal breeders can sign up for the app and use it to notify authorities and other breeders in the event of mass releases or escapes from their mink farms, and initiate a rapid response protocol.
Basic features:
Learn about mammalian alien invasive species in your area
Become a citizen scientist to help protect biodiversity
Support early detection of IAS and help map their distribution
Record your own observations and share them with key stakeholders in IAS management
It is a tool that supports the early detection and rapid response to IAS mammal invasions. The information collected through the application is incorporated into the online platform https://ews.lifeatias.gr, which is accessible by authorized users involved in the management of the IAS (i.e. the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, the Forestry Service, the Protected Areas Management Units and the Hunting Federations).
This application was developed in the framework of the LIFE ATIAS project (LIFE18/NAT/GR/000430) "Addressing the Threat of Invasive Alien Species in North Greece, using Early Warning and Information systems for mammals", which is co-financed by the European Commission through LIFE programme.
