About this app

Dust and Glory: A Lent journey of faith, failure and forgiveness is the Church of England’s theme for Lent 2023.

It contains 40 daily reflections for both adults and children to help us find God in the mess of everyday life, one for each of the 40 days in Lent, beginning on Ash Wednesday (22 February) and ending on Easter Day (9 April).

For adults, each day (Monday to Saturday) the app offers:
- A passage from the Bible
- A short reflection on themes of faith, failure and forgiveness
- A practical challenge
- Full audio recordings of the above.

For each week there is:
- A theme based on one one of the chapters of ‘Failure’, the Archbishop of Canterbury's 2023 Lent Book by Emma Ineson
- A brief introduction to the readings for the week
- A simple prayer.

For children and families, the app offers:
- 40 daily challenges for each day of Lent by Emma Ineson
- A weekly theme to help all ages think about how to live well with the ‘mess’ of everyday life
- Short passages from the Bible
- Simple prayers for use throughout the week.
- Full audio recordings of the above.

The prayers, challenges and reflections for both adults and children are taken from Dust and Glory booklets from Church House Publishing.

This latest version of the award-winning Church of England campaign app, produced by the Church of England Digital and Publishing teams and developed by Class Professional Ltd (incorporating Aimer Media).

“Dust and Glory encourages us to take a fresh look at the frustrations and failings that every day brings and, rather than pretending we can always avoid them, seek to learn from them and grow closer to God through them.”

This app automatically restarts audio playback whenever another audio file completes- even if that audio file is in a completely different app like Instagram. A video will finish playing, and then, between videos, this one starts again. Very intrusive. Android user here. [Ed.] The bug was corrected. Thanks to Aimer Media for another quality C of E app!

I've used this app for Advent and Lent for the last two years and love it. I noticed for Advent 2022 the dates on the daily readings do not match up with the date read aloud in the audio version. On December 2 in the calendar the audio references December 3. Is there a glitch or something I don't understand?

Its early days yet, but I am really enjoying this app. Its very easy to use and navigate. Although it automatically defaults to the current day"s study, there is a chance to revisit days if you want ro look at something again, or if you missed a day. A particularly useful function is the little blue arrow, which if clicked reveals the whole text of the day"s reading. This is especially useful for those times when I haven't got a Bible to hand ( eg if I am on the bus)!
