I posted this originally several months ago... How hard is it to increase the size of the Chinese characters? I'm paying for this app and I can barely make out the check for the language I'm trying to learn... Original post: Would be 5 stars but Chinese Mandarin characters and pinyin font displayed are sometimes too small to see the strokes and accent markers, respectively. Also, strangely the first lesson including the numbers one, two and three does not include any pronunciation examples with sound. In general, when they present Chinese characters, they don't also show the pronunciation... Very odd.
I have paid for annual subscription today. However, I got no new features described in the app. It seems like app doesn't know about my payment. Please help me to figure out what to do to resolve this issue. If issue is resolved, I will change my score to five star. (The issue has been fixed properly)
Using it for Turkish. Larger collection of vocabulary than Duolingo, and native speakers reading words and phrases is a big plus. Their actual pedagogical system is not as good as Duolingo though (lots of repeating, not much figuring out grammar, which Duo is better at). My recommendation would be complete Duolingo course first, then use this to beef up your vocab.
I love this app because it uses all the learning types. I have learned more Japanese in two months than I thought was possible. I wanted to free myself from subtitles while watching anime and J-drama, and though I have a long way to go, I am starting to understand what they are saying. One recommendation, allow unrestricted reviews. Sometimes that app tells me I am so great I don't need to review. It's nice to be complimented by an app, but there are definitely words I need to work on more. This app is worth the yearly subscription, and I am considering lifetime membership. I have also used this for Russian, and Turkish and liked those language sections as well.
Japanese, I know the difference between hiragana and katakana. But when during the listening skills test you get the ん/ン characters, and provide two sounds for N, it becomes a guessing game for me. And it is normally wrong. Because it doesn't think there is a difference. Please make sure the listening portion does not test you on hiragana and katakana at the same time, or accepts both answers. This should be easily fixed. Once fixed, I will change to 5 stars, as I am a pro member, and enjoy the app despite this inconvenience.
It used to be a very good language learning app. But lately there have been appearing some glitches like, on the "three listening buttons" test, the one button that is actually the right answer, never works, and you have to leave and re-enter the learning session every time this happens, which is very often. That makes the learning experience very annoying. Also, in almost all courses, some words I already had learnt much time ago, suddenly reappear for some reason as if I hadn't learned them before, so I'ts like the courses never end.
We put an update in
We put an update out
We put an update in
And then shaked it all about
It got all hokey pokey
so we turned it all around
That’s what it’s all about!
