About this app

Speaking a new language is 20% about “learning” and 80% about the right kind of practice. Language courses and apps tend to focus just on the “learning” part.

Memrise helps you learn, but it also uses some nifty AI to create a whole world of language practice experiences that take you from *knowing* a language to actually speaking it with confidence.

No matter whether you’re learning a language for work, travel, exams, fun, or even love, it’s impossible to improve without the right kind of practice.

Practice Understanding with 1000s of hours of videos

YouTube has billions of hours of videos in the language you’re learning… but how to find ones that you find interesting and that are at the right level so that you can understand them?

Don’t worry! We’ve got you covered. We’ve curated videos from across the internet. We analyze them and then recommend ones to you based on your level and interests. Even if you’re a total beginner we’ve got content for you to watch! We also generate vocab lists from the videos if you need them.

Practice speaking with the FREE, fun and low-stress AI language partner
Unless you live in a country where your target language is spoken, it’s difficult to find people you can practice speaking the language with… but without practice you’ll never get confident.

That’s why Memrise built the world’s first AI-powered Language Partner - MemBot.

MemBot is an infinitely patient, supportive and FREE conversation partner that will guide and motivate you through the hours of practice you need.

From one moment to the next, MemBot can play the role of a friendly barista, a job interview panelist, or a friend organizing a surprise party. The MemBot is actually proven to significantly lower the stress that many people experience when practicing with a human language tutor. The less stressed you feel, the more you practice and the faster you build the confidence to speak to real people!

Some nice things that people have written about Memrise:

“The courses focus on tourist-friendly expressions first like ‘what’s the Wi-Fi password’ and ‘where are you from?’ instead of ducks eating apples.” - Android Authority

“We love the techniques Memrise uses to teach new language concepts. Using the website and app is visually appealing and seems to work well because of the mnemonic techniques.” - Lifewire

“Memrise uses several modern hooks in its approach to a very old problem: learning a different language.” - TechCrunch

I really like this app - it's easy to use and I like hearing /seeing all the different people saying the things I'm learning. 2 comments for improvements: 1) Please make the volume consistent between the speaker's voices. I have to keep adjusting the volume up or down to hear people at a comfortable volume. 2) I learned that there's a whole other part of the app that is not available in the Early Access mode. It would be nice to combine that them into one interface so we don't have to switch.

Pretty incredible overall, and with so many languages to learn, and an option to permanently remove ads(as well as access premium content) it's one of the best I've ever seen. That's not to say it's without it's issues. The ads can get annoying( they pop up after every few classes beyond the daily limit). However they don't last long and once you're in a rhythm it's not so bad. All-in-one all I'm ecstatic that I found this one😁.

Native audio and great flashcards. The problem for me is the paywall. You only get a few flashcards and the rest are only available if you pay. For example I was doing korean 1, and I was only able to learn 33 of the 538 flashcards. If you want to learn more you have to pay and as of now, it's $8.49 a month, $29.99 a year, or $119.99 for lifetime accont.
