Excellent concept - 5 stars if small tweaks made My 5 yr old daughter and I used app yesterday and had a lot of fun. There are interactive challenges and question at each point. Also app contains excellent videos and audio files to watch/listen to which really bring the walls history to life. App has detailed information to read during the quest or later and interesting facts. We live locally so we've walked the walls many times before. Still learned about new aspects of Chester history using the app so I'd recommend it for visitors and locals. Tip: Download the app when you're on wi-fi. Once it's dowloaded (still on wi-fi) go to the Info section and select Dowload Assets. This downloads the videos and audio commentaries needed for the game. Feedback for developers: Add progress bar and 'Download Complete' message for dowloading assets - I couldn't tell whether anything was happening! Also I couldn’t enter wish at the Wishing Steps – app didn’t display a return key on my keypad and there wasn't an Enter button to select.
Promises a lot, delivers a little It's a bit of fun, and makes a walk a walk around the walls more interesting. We know Chester well, and did learn a few new points, but during our stroll we learnt far more by using Google and the Internet, plus the notice boards along the wall (which duplicate many of the points in this app). It's a huge download, 30mb IIRC for the app, plus an unspecified further download for the videos (I think that's what they mean, they call them 'assets'). Do use wi-fi. Foreign visitors should note that playing the games or reading comments will require Internet access and expensive roaming charges. A major downer. Full marks for installing the 1mb app on the sd-card, not the phone. No marks for installing 100mb of video files on the phone, they really should go on the card. Yes I can't work out why the initial download was 30mb, where did it all go? Anyway it's fun and free, so give it a go. I'd have given it 3 stars if it wasn't for its final major flaw (plus an assortment of minor bugs). On my Samsung Galaxy the gps didn't work, so it's lucky I know the walls well, and could find where I was. The gps was working properly, I checked Google maps, so the problem is with this app.
No GPS on galaxy s2 Very disappointed. GPS didn't work and kept asking to down load assets, even though I kept saying yes. Hence didn't use on our visit to Chester.
Good concept though buggy My girlfriend and I have walked the walls many times before. Today we thought this would be a good app to try. It gave some new facts about Chester and the walls and some fun activities to do along the route. However the videos would not play and the app kept crashing. Good concept for the app just need some fixes to make it stable for all.
Needs a warning! Good fun app and makes walking the walls a fun and interesting experience. But the download ate my monthly fair use limit so make sure you are on WiFi or unlimited 3g.
Chester wall quest It's graet I've had graet fun with it.
