Ratings and reviews

When learning another language, it is best to find the most comprehensive, educated material from true scholars. Oxford is, by all accounts, the epitome of learners' text to the English language, regardless of volume. Easily a 10/10 for those who wish to broaden their linguistic or grammatical skills in Real English.

Yikes! I wanted this app over Merriam-Webster's because I like the Oxford English Dictionary more, but I uninstalled it in a matter of minutes. This app seems like a complete money grab. I understand the need to have some ads in order to support the developers, and a Premium subscription, while it seems strange for a dictionary app, kind of makes sense if you actually have "premium" features to offer. (A single payment would make more sense here, considering the relatively static nature of a dictionary, but I digress.) That said, listening to word pronunciation is a basic function of any online dictionary and should not be considered a "premium" feature. The ads are intrusive and significantly interfere with the usability of the app. You can barely read a definition without an ad popping up or the app nagging you to subscribe to Premium. Overall, very poor quality app, especially considering how simple it should be to look something up in a dictionary. App is barely usable due to constant ads. Avoid this one; there are plenty of alternatives.

Constant issues with the premium version in the past couple of months. At least once a week it reverts to the free version with ads for no apparent reason. Every time it happens, I have to reinstall the app from scratch to fix it, which only helps for a few days and then the app breaks again. This is a new bug that seems to have started after the last app update in April 2021.
