Answer three questions: is your child playing, eating, and sleeping as usual? It's how physicians size up a feverish child before any number, and it works even when you have nothing to measure with. The same screen lists the emergency signs to watch for. With Premium, FeverCoach uses those answers to show how your child is doing and what to do next.

Hold your phone's camera gently against your child's skin and FeverCoach reads their pulse. Because heart rate rises with fever, it then shows the temperature range statistically associated with that pulse for a child their age — a quick read on whether it's time to grab the thermometer, keep watching, or call your doctor.

It's a statistical reference, not a reading. A thermometer is still how you know your child's temperature. If a baby under 3 months has a fever, see a doctor right away.

FeverCoach protects your child's health data to HIPAA security standards — and it's always yours. Delete your account, and your data is deleted with it. Pulse readings are used to improve the feature only if you say yes, and are never linked to your account.

I find it useful that it tells me whether the temperature is dangerous or not, which is basically what I am trying to figure out when my my kid has a fever!
