Inside this colorful App, based mostly on US Government data, you will find a list of food items and easy to follow suggestions on how to reduce your risk of cancer through nutrition and choices that you make every day. This app represents the most comprehensive and actionable nutrition guidelines for how to reduce your risk, prevent and combat cancer, in general, and Breast Cancer, in particular. If you rather tackle health issues and risks through proper nutrition and lifestyle changes as opposed to prescription drugs and other typical medical treatments, then this book is for you!
Unfortunately, health issues often come our way in groups of two or more. If we are obese or under stress, then chances are we are also at risk with a number of other health issues such as cancer, high blood pressure, or Vitamin D deficiency. If the triglycerides level is too high in our blood, then chances are we suffer from high cholesterol too. If we have Vitamin D deficiency then chances are we either suffer from or have higher risk of getting Osteoporosis, Crohn’s disease or kidney problems. Each health issue often results in other health complications, thus the need for looking at a combination of health concerns and risks when formulating our nutrition plans and lifestyle changes. It is for that reason, that we have included separate cancer prevention guidelines for those who might suffer from any of the following common conditions: depression, gout, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, stress and Vitamin D deficiency. Some of these conditions such as obesity and stress are considered risk factors for getting cancer, and some of these conditions you might experience as a result of getting cancer.
One of the factors that makes “Choose This not That” series of publications different from all others available to you in the market is that we offer nutrition guidelines for likely COMBINATIONS of illnesses and risks that may be relevant to your situation. We also give you specific guidance by telling you exactly which fish, fruit, vegetable, nut … is the best for you as well as listing the worst items. We give you an ordered list of food items within each food group, not just a food group.

“The Choose This Not That series of books and apps provide dietary recommendations focused on common chronic health problems. They are easy to understand and thus easy to implement into daily life. Most doctors would find it difficult to discuss dietary recommendations at the level of detail found in the series. They should serve as a valuable complement in helping people manage chronic illnesses through dietary and lifestyle modifications.”

The balance of benefits versus harms of breast cancer screening is controversial. The characteristics of the cancer determine the treatment, which may include surgery, medications (hormonal therapy and chemotherapy), radiation and/or immunotherapy. Surgery provides the single largest benefit, and to increase the likelihood of remission (no further sign of the cancer), several chemotherapy regimens are commonly given in addition. Radiation is used after breast-conserving surgery and substantially improves local relapse rates and in many circumstances also overall survival.
Worldwide, breast cancer accounts for 22.9% of all cancers (excluding non-melanoma skin cancers) in women. In 2008, breast cancer caused 458,503 deaths worldwide (13.7% of cancer deaths in women). Breast cancer is more than 100 times more common in women than in men, although men tend to have poorer outcomes due to delays in diagnosis.
Prognosis and survival rates for breast cancer vary greatly depending on the cancer type, stage, treatment, and geographical location of the patient. Survival rates in the Western world are high; for example, more than 8 out of 10 women (85%) in England diagnosed with breast cancer survive for at least 5 years. In developing countries, however, survival rates are much poorer.
The United States has the highest annual incidence rates of breast cancer in the world. It is the second-most common cancer, after skin cancer, and the second-most common cause of cancer death...after lung cancer!
A US study conducted in 2005 indicated that breast cancer remains the most feared disease, even though heart disease is a much more common cause of death among women.
In most countries, October is recognized as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). The primary purpose is to promote screening mammography as the most effective way to save lives by detecting breast cancer at early stages.
