What are Noa's editorial principles?
1. Multiple Perspectives: Offer multiple perspectives from trusted sources and empower listeners to make up their own minds on where they stand on a topic.
2. Thought-provoking: Present audio articles that inform, inspire, and offer fresh insights, through both a global and a national lens. Focus on opinion, feature, and analysis articles.
3. Storytellers: Be storytellers and educators. Help our listeners understand global topics, and perspectives, while also telling the stories of the people behind the headlines.
4. Global Impact: Ensure coverage and raise awareness of important topics, regardless of a topics popularity or ability to drive “clicks”.
5. Fourth Estate: Uphold journalism’s values as a democratic check on power. And always celebrate great journalism.
6. Embrace Complexity: Encourage thought and avoid black and white explanations that aren't followed with depth. The world is complicated and can seldom be explained in minutes. Our goal is to help listeners navigate it.

i like the concept, but the app seems pretty non-functional to me. despite having set my preferences several times it continues to put up a "set your preferences" popup over everything. the whole "choose N or more" nonsense is really annoying, i don't want to make these choices ahead of time, i just want to browse. after just randomly picking nonsense to get the pref to go away i downloaded a few articles i wanted to listen to offline, and then i couldn't find the downloaded content anywhere.

Hi Dean - fair points. We can add a 'skip' option for sure. There was a bug whereby the app repeatedly asked you to set preferences, which is now fixed. As for downloads, you can access them in Library > Articles. Please do give the app another go and reach out to me (Gareth) at gareth [at] newsoveraudio [dot] com.

After writing feedback in app, I decided to also post it here. App settings; (In the form of selection of a few publications, and then topics) I was met with article after article from publications I didn't select about topics I didn't request. For a curated aggregate, claiming conceptually to try and be less bias/partisan, verbalizing the news, I certainly like the concept - in practice I'd give this one a hard pass as of this moment. App is filled with AI narration which you can turn off.

Thanks for sharing, Chris. There was a bug whereby folks were repeatedly asked to set their preferences, but this is now fixed. We certainly are non-partisan (as an editorial team) and do our best to offer multiple perspectives. The preferences you set (topics, publishers) are reflected in the For You tab, whereas the app opens on the Latest tab.

Hosts articles from publications that I enjoy hearing from, but 90% of articles are AI-voiced and unskippable ads are integrated across the entire platform. No thanks, I'll read a book.

Thanks, Justin for your feedback. 99% of articles on Noa (>30k) are read by professional (human) narrators. We just started offering AI-voiced (all quality assured by our editors). About 30% of new articles are AI-voiced and these are in addition to our human reads. You can also hide AI-read articles in settings. And for no ads you can go Premium.

What’s new

- Improved accuracy of Read Along.
- Fixed an issue where play screen was not updating after new article begins playing.
