Pros: makes neat scans, and is great for exploring the concept of Gaussian splats, without needing to sign up for yet another service that could be breached. Cons: no external processing whatsoever. It's all on your phone, and on a Pixel 5 it takes nearly an hour to refine the data. Would love to see a desktop companion program that I could USB transfer raw draft scans to, and process them there. I've got a perfectly good rtx 3070, let me throw it at the splat processing!

Scaniverse is one of the best 3D scanning apps available that works without requiring a network connection. However, there seems to be a bug with exporting models. When attempting to export in GLB format, an error message appears stating, "There was an error preparing your scan to be uploaded." Additionally, exporting in OBJ format results in empty models. Once these issues are resolved, this app has the potential to be an incredibly useful tool for scanning objects into 3D!

Does almost nothing in Classic or New mode. I installed to capture splats. App isn't able to create splats. Crashes every time at the Training splat step. In New mode not possible to create assets (creation method unselectable). Looking at other people's splats freezes the entire phone (Pixel 10 Pro), needs forced reboot. Does create a mesh but it's very low quality. The camera is on *all the time* when the app is open (the little dot gives it away).

What’s new

The new Scaniverse experience keeps getting better. Export cloud-generated assets straight from the app, no more switching to the web to grab your files. That includes USDZ, a format that works great for robotics simulation.

The capture flow also got a full redesign. Scanning feels smoother from start to finish.
