A little quirky but good function The UI is somewhat confusing and clunky but not too bad. My biggest gripe is on the insistence to place the horizon in the middle of the screen. Why would most users care what's below the horizon when they can't see it. This is particularly annoying to those of us who use the app for night photography and can't fully judge the extent of the Milky way arch. An option to place the horizon near the bottom of the screen would be quite welcome.
Fascinating animations (satellites etc) It's interesting to see where all the satellites are, I didn't realize there were so many! The app shows them moving across the sky, along with movement of stars, planets, moon. You can turn off the satellites if you don't want to see them. You can also fast-forward or rewind, also a kind of time-lapse effect. Works good offline although I initially ran it online to get my coordinates input correctly, for accurate sky view. The controls were a little confusing for me to figure out but otherwise it's fine.
This is an excellent app. Using this in laptop for many years. I gave 4 stars only because mobile (Android) version doesn't have all the starlore latest PC (Linux) version has. I am paying for the Android version so I expect it to be flawless. Then again this is an outstanding app and those who are using it, know this already.
On Android I would be lost without it now. Best app I have. !! (Like Bino's, naked eye & scopes, don't expect to see or locate anything thru heavy clouds) I have 6 telescopes but at night when hanging out of the bedroom window with the camera, it's good to have this app on hand. Or if it's getting cloudy and I need to find a star or planet fast. Only an idiot would be without this app !!
I love Stellarium. I've been using Stellarium on Windows and Android for years now. I have compared this to many other observatory apps, some of them quite expensive, and Stellarium is still the one I use most often. I teach astronomy and I encourage my students to purchase this app as a mobile companion to the labs we do in class on Stellarium for Windows.
Location Flaw Good app but the user experience for the location sellection is terrible to a point that that feature is unusable. For example if you select United States you have to scroll all the way down to the bottom, then it brings up a list of ALL US cities. If I want Reno I would have to spend 5 minutes scrolling down to the Rs.
