Ibn Kathir mentioned the reason for writing the Book of the Virtues of the Holy Qur’an, which was to help memorize and work with the Qur’an. He said: “Al-Bukhari mentioned the Book of the Virtues of the Qur’an after the Book of Interpretation; Because interpretation is more important, that's why he started with it. We presented the virtues before interpretation, and mentioned the virtue of each surah before interpreting it. This will be an incentive to memorize the Qur’an, understand it, and act according to what it contains. And God is the Helper.”
It is clear from the title of the book and its content that in order to monitor the virtues of the Holy Qur’an, the author mentioned in it topics related to the Holy Qur’an. He began by collecting the Qur’an, Uthman bin Affan’s writing of the Qur’an, and he mentioned the reciters among the companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and recitation in recitation. It is strange that he did not mention the virtue of each surah. From the surahs of the Holy Qur’an, but he was satisfied with the topics and studying them.
In the topics, the author relied on mentioning and discussing the words of the scholars, and on what Al-Bukhari said in the book The Virtues of the Qur’an in his Sahih. He mentions his words and comments on them. The chapter begins by mentioning a hadith on the subject, or a statement by Al-Bukhari, then he follows with his words.

- In this book, Ibn Kathir answered many of the questions that came to my mind and I recorded them in my notebook as I read to the later and contemporary scholars about the compilation and arrangement of the Qur’an. What distinguished Ibn Kathir from others whom I read was his relative closeness to the three favored centuries, and perhaps my mind became familiar with them. With his mind, and I do not say this as an exaltation of my personality, nor even an approximation, but as if Ibn Kathir saw what was on my chest and responded, and he heard my concerns and soothed them with the ink of his ink.

- I love any book that talks about the Qur’an, reminds us of its great virtue, and brings us closer to it

- He added vocabulary to my language that I was ignorant of, as well as some information that I did not know, such as the fallacy that says that the Uthmani script attributed to Uthman bin Affan - may God be pleased with him - was the one who wrote it, but the truth is different from that. Whoever wrote it was Zaid bin Thabit or someone who commanded and supervised him. Othman - may God be pleased with him - is therefore attributed to him
