The Book of Mawdoo'at by Sheikh Abu al-Faraj Ibn al-Jawzi was revised and refined, and Imam al-Dhahabi shortened the length of its chains of transmission. He also abbreviated some of the longer texts and some of the statements about men.

The Summary of the Book of Mawdoo'at by Ibn al-Jawzi is considered an important reference for researchers and specialists in the field of Hadith studies. It falls within the scope of Hadith sciences and closely related branches, including jurisprudence, biography, and other branches of Prophetic guidance.

Ibn al-Jawzi wrote an introduction to his book (Al-Mawdoo'at), which we have already referred to, along with its chapters, in our discussion of the book (Al-Mawdoo'at). He listed the categories of hadiths, their acceptance and rejection, the types of fabricators, the scholars' resistance to fabrication, and other important, good, and valuable texts on the subject of fabrication and related matters. He then concluded with his methodology for organizing the book and listing its chapters and books.

As for Imam Al-Dhahabi - may God have mercy on him - he did not mention any of that, and was satisfied with mentioning the order of Imam Ibn Al-Jawzi for the books mentioned in the book, although Imam Al-Dhahabi, as he did in (Al-Ilal Al-Mutanahiyya), differed in mentioning these books, as he mentioned the biographies of books that were not in the book (Al-Mawdoo’at) by Ibn Al-Jawzi. For example, Imam Ibn Al-Jawzi mentioned in the beginning of his book “The Book of Monotheism”, followed by “The Book of Faith”, then “The Beginning”, then “The Book of the Prophets”, then “The Book of Knowledge”, while Imam Al-Dhahabi’s order was different from him, as he began with “The Book of Monotheism”, then “Faith”, then “The Beginning”, then “The Beauty and Attributes”, then “Old Age”, then “Knowledge”. Imam Ibn Al-Jawzi did not mention the books “The Beauty and Attributes” and “Old Age”, but he mentioned in their place “The Book of the Prophets”, and the hadiths included under them according to Al-Dhahabi are the hadiths that Al-Dhahabi included under the two books we mentioned, the book “The Beauty and Attributes”, this is from the introduction. Thus, Imam Al-Dhahabi did not write an introduction to his book, and he also differed from Imam Ibn Al-Jawzi in the order and naming of the books.

Imam Ibn Al-Jawzi divided his book into books, and under each book he included a number of chapters bearing titles that represent the biographies of the hadiths included beneath them, a practice common to all hadith scholars when they divide their books, such as Bukhari, into books and chapters on jurisprudence. Imam Al-Dhahabi, however, lists hadiths under the title he mentions as chapters, without mentioning chapters, nor did he adhere to the chapters mentioned by Ibn Al-Jawzi. These differences were also evident in the book (Al-'Ilal Al-Mutanahiya).

The Author:
He is Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Uthman ibn Qaymaz ibn Abdullah Al-Turkmani Al-Asl Al-Farqi, then from Damascus, Shams Al-Din Al-Dhahabi, a hadith scholar and imam who memorized the hadith. He combined two qualities that are only found in a few exceptional figures in our history: he combined, in addition to his extensive knowledge of Islamic history, both events and men, with a thorough understanding of the principles of criticism and validation of hadiths. He was a school in his own right. Imam al-Dhahabi is one of the scholars who entered the field of history through the lens of Prophetic hadith and its sciences. This was evident in his exceptional attention to biographies, which became the basis of many of his books and the focus of his historical thought. It is said that Imam al-Dhahabi was given the nickname "the Golden One" because he weighed men as a jeweler weighs gold.
