Cosmic Compass simulates the direction and brightness of sunlight and moonlight based on date, time, and location. It also points north!
Amid the Sun, the Moon, and the North, our app gives pride of place to the Stanford Bunny and the Stanford Dragon, symbols of 3D graphics research. They go round the compass rose at the rate of one revolution per minute. This pace allows us to appreciate the shifting interplay of long-eared and serpentine shadows while we break from the daily onslaught to consider our place in the Universe.
Besides being an unusually beautiful compass and modern variant of the sundial, Cosmic is one demonstration of Nummist Media's software libraries, which provide new patterns for apps that connect to the real world. Please visit us at http://nummist.com/unity/#cosmic to find out more.
- A gyroscope is recommended. It stabilizes the rotation as you view the compass from different angles.
- Shadows require GL_OES_depth_texture support. Tegra 3 chips lack it.
