A meditation timer which allows you to set a target for the length of time you want to meditate each day. It includes a widget that displays the number of consecutive days you have hit the target. It is thus useful not only as a timer, but also as a tool to help motivate you to meditate regularly.

He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. "After a few days you'll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You'll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain."

The chain in this case is the number of consecutive days that you have hit your meditation target. The widget displays both the current chain, and the longest ever chain. Having this on my home screen motivates me to meditate every day. Your mileage may vary.

Great for daily use, or at the dharma hall I use it daily in my own practice, as well as in a group setting if we're without a real gong/chime. It makes a fairly realistic chime sound, which is very configurable (you can make it silent, or only ring at the beginning or end, or every X minutes). I like setting it to "unlimited" so I can meditate as long as I like, with bells every 10 minutes to let me know how far I've gone.

Meditation is one of the most crucial aspects to cultivate more peace and happiness in life. It is to build self-esteem and intuition, hear your truth, make wise, skillful choices, improve communication, increase creativity and productivity, and let go.
If you've tried meditation thinking it would be quiet and peaceful you have probably been surprised to discover that it is quite a challenge. In a Zen meditative practice you are taught to meditate often for hours at a time in a seated position with an emphasis on maintaining a fixed posture. Usually, one's posture slips as the meditation wears on and this is believed to adversely affect the meditation.
At the core of meditation is the goal to focus and eventually quiet your mind, thus freeing your awareness. As you progress, you will find that you can meditate anywhere and at any time, accessing an inner calm no matter what's going on around you. You will also find that you can better control your reactions to things as you become increasingly aware of your thoughts (letting go of anger, for example). But first, you have to learn to tame your mind and control your breathing.

The first time Meditation Helper Pro runs it checks to see if it can import data from the free version. It is possible to run this import process manually from the settings menu, assuming you have the latest Meditation Helper free version installed.
You can also import data from the free version by manually backing it up, then restoring it from the settings menu on Meditation Helper Pro. Backing it up on the free version writes the data to a file. Restoring it on Meditation Helper Pro reads from the same file. This is a bit more awkward, and is the reason I wrote the auto-import functionality.

The app allows you to set a target for the length of time you want to meditate each day. It includes a widget that displays the number of consecutive days you have hit the target. It is thus useful not only as a timer, but also as a tool to help motivate you to meditate regularly.

He revealed a unique calendar system he uses to pressure himself to write. Here's how it works.
He told me to get a big wall calendar that has a whole year on one page and hang it on a prominent wall. The next step was to get a big red magic marker.
He said for each day that I do my task of writing, I get to put a big red X over that day. "After a few days you'll have a chain. Just keep at it and the chain will grow longer every day. You'll like seeing that chain, especially when you get a few weeks under your belt. Your only job next is to not break the chain."
"Don't break the chain," he said again for emphasis."

The chain in this case is the number of consecutive days that you have hit your meditation target. The widget displays both the current chain, and the longest ever chain. Having this on my home screen motivates me to meditate every day. Your mileage may vary.

Notifications of Mindfulness (Nom)
This application was inspired by Thich Nhat Hanh who, in Peace is Every Step, talks about bells of mindfulness:
"In my tradition, we use temple bells to remind us to come back to the present moment. Every time we hear the bell, we stop talking, stop our thinking, and return to ourselves, breathing in and out, and smiling. Whatever we are doing, we pause for a moment and just enjoy our breathing."
With Nom, instead of a bell, you receive a notification in your status bar. You add phrases to Nom which will motivate you or inspire you. You configure how many notifications you want to receive during the day, the minimum / maximum gap between notifications etc. Nom then picks one of your phrases at random points and displays it as a notification.
Nom allows you to configure the following:
* The sort order of the messages you have added.
* Whether or not you want the previous notification to be cleared when you open Nom.
* The time window when you want to receive notifications.
* The maximum number of notifications you want to receive in a day.
* The strategy used to pick the message to display e.g. with the Biased Random strategy, messages that have been displayed fewer times have a higher probability of being chosen.
You can also export all your phrases to the SD card, and import from the same location.
I have been using Nom for the last few months, and have found that it has really helped to improve my mindfulness and motivation. I've finally decided to publish it on Google Play in the hope that others will find it useful too. I hope you like it.
