UPDATE: 5/6/17: This is one app that keeps getting better and better!! No bs permissions. How do I donate to developer? YOU DESERVE IT!! This app truly is worth much more than I paid for, its simplicity and ease of using it's perfect to learn how to make knots. Others similar apps going for two or three times the money are not even close to this awesome app. I hope the developers don't stop improving it. Great job devps!!!!!!! UPDATE: this is perhaps one of the few apps that keep getting better with time. Great job devs!! My updated star rate: 6 STARS!! keep it up guys!!
Cool app! The one problem I had was when I watched the monkey's fist, I wanted to turn the animation around as the rope snaked round the back of the marble/ball. I could rewind, fast forward, mirror it, turn it upside down and see the COMPLETED knot in 3D- however, I wasn't able to view it from the other side. That means it isn't actually 3D- it's a 2D animation with rotate and mirror controls with a 3D picture at the end. Still very informative and handy as I own a boat. If we could just turn them 180° horizontally while they play as well as vertically (complete control to spin turn would be even better), I would have given 5 stars.
The variable speed dynamic animations make it super easy to learn each knot. However, it only shows 'one' way to tie each knot, some of the older ways were better, (SUGGESTION:) it would be great to have both animations rather than replace them. In saying that, it is still worth it.
Excellent collection of the most useful knots. The only thing I've found strange is that this app has a Tiller's Hitch which I thought was called a Becket Hitch, but that name isn't listed at all. It's probably I just have it wrong.
I get a great deal of satisfaction and practical value knowing my knots. This app is about as useful a reference as one could ask for: It contains a broad selection of knots while making excellent use of the technology to make itself better than a book - animations make things extremely clear. It's easy enough to follow that it makes carrying around a couple of shoelaces in the car for practice a fun activity for kids or adults.
Animations can be hard to follow as it is showing the free ends snaking around Instead of trying to animate movement as if you were tying it. Still a good variety of knots.
