Review from Jim Barton
If I did not have to have this app, I'd never choose it. NO OPTION TO SAVE TO SD CARD! THAT WAS THE BIGGEST GRUMBLE ABOUT ZINIO THAT THEY CLAIMED THEY WERE GOING TO FIX. The list of titles when it eventually arrived is only on one line, so the majority of the page is empty. JUST FOUND out that "select all" does show a grid, but cannot sort by date of magazine. And each scroll has a delay before it shows the next magazine. The only settings are wifi only, and whether to auto - download titles. What's with the dates? I've set UK but you're showing dates in US format - please personalise correctly to the country. . When I select a title to READ, it takes me to a summary page for that title, where I have to select READ again! After 2 months I have just been told that under each magazine there is "READ" in red letters on black! How stupid is that for a design? Then it shows that annoying "Loading..." AGAIN. It takes far longer to download a title than Zinio. To start with it only gave an error message, but a few closes and reopens and leaving it for a while and it finally started opening magazines. I'd hoped when I saw on opening zinio that there was a new replacement app, that it might be better, but I still have to swipe to change page - not touch the edge of the page (or use the volume keys) like kindle or kobo. There are no hyperlinks within the app. In Zinio I could use the index of a magazine to jump to an article, now it pops up the scroll bar of pages instead. Poor. I've sent an email with comments and they want me to complete a huge form with immense skoda of detail that have no bearing whatsoever on my complaints /suggestions for improvement. The only two positives I see at present 1) not needing to go to the RBDigital Web site to check out magazines. 2) text view of articles helpful on phones.
This app is good, but it's too hard to browse through Audiobooks, there should be a suggested books section. Theres also a very limited number of copies per story and they do not get automatically returned when you finish one, so often you have to wait a while for your book. The sleep timer was better when you could choose any number of minutes and they have some books in series but not others which is really annoying.
They have a great library of best selling fantasy and historical fiction books to choose from. But, I don't like that when you stream books from multiple devices (i.e. your mobile phone and the website) it doesn't sync. The website audio player isn't that user friendly it only tells you the length of the chapter and a progress bar it doesn't give you the precise time you're listening to so it's hard to keep track of where you are when you try to find your place.
Has been working really well and is a great app to use. One problem has just started, download a book and then open it, the error message unable to connect to internal server appears. Have tried reinstalling but same problem is there. Any help please.
This app does not work properly with any wired earbuds that I have tried: Apple, Samsung, or Vomercy. On a Samsung Galaxy J7 the pause button on the earbuds does not work properly. I have to choose the Legacy player (every time) and then do a press hold (which activates OK Google) and only then will the pause button on the remote work. What a pain.
Doesn't provide variable speed playback, and won't run when Super Cleaner notication blocker is enabled. Otherwise worked fine. I prefer Overdrive to this app, but the latter does not offer all the titles I want.
Last two books that I have had the app crashes at the end of each chapter. I listen well driving so it is very annoying. Please fix. Thank you and have a great day.
