The Science Behind Dr. Heartbreak
Dating is tough. When your match rejects you and your relationship ends the emotional pain you feel can be extremely sharp. Studies have found that even very mild dating rejections can cause heartache and emotional pain. Certainly, not getting matched, getting dumped or going through a breakup can cause real anguish. So what can you do to make your dating heartbreak less intense and your emotional recovery go more quickly?
The real issue is not just what you can and should do to heal but also, what singles shouldn’t do to make things worse. It turns out, bad dating experiences, poor matches, and the wrong swipes can make you do a lot of things that can set you back and delay your recovery. For example, idealizing the date or match who caused you heartbreak in the first place. It is common, when we are heartbroken, to think of how great they were and how great things could be if we were with them. But doing that only makes the rejection and the heartbreak hurt more.
Dr. Heartbreak tries to communicate that there are steps singles who have had dating rejections and broken hearts can take to heal. There are also other steps they can take to avoid the mistakes that will set them back and allow them to reenter the dating world with confidence, and swipe their way to better matches.
