Not enough released information about the apps security and usage data. Which concerns me but I also understand nothing is free. Only 2mb download load speed. Ok for general usage if you're not in a rush. Therefore three stars. Move it far away from Canada. Add UK to the app and release more information on it and a possible five stars. A great looking and easy to use UI though.

Opera is GOOD! This wonderfully crafted technology is like a breath of fresh in a world full of toxic fumes. I'm giving it 5/5 (6+ if that was possible) as I didn't' believe that you could use the words "principled", "decent" or "humane" together with "successful", "technology and "company". They are amazingly talented people who write incredible apps. Yes, it is sometimes slow (just turn the dollar-saver part off) but not noticeably. They deserve a Nobel Prize for protecting human rights IMO. Takk skal du ha Vikings!

FINALLY! A working VPN app worth keeping installed. This is a nice, simple little app. Clean, pretty effective from the tests I have run and reliable too (will there be a windows 10 version? I hope so). Does get a bit quirky on connect when using Data instead of WiFi, but gets there in the end. Only downside I can find is that the Ads are bang smack in the middle of the information. But it's free, so no complaints from me. Keep up the good work. Also please can we have a UK region. Thanks.

Seems to be working fine for me. I'm in a large big city hospital and speed is not slow at all for me. Still in major hospital in a large city. I have not noticed any difference in speed. Maybe because of high-speed connection for Hospital I do not know. No buffering whatsoever and no slugging along when searching. I've been home for a month now,living in the high density core of the city see no slowing speed. I use it at home as well as every where else.

I had been using Tunnel Bear but it constantly disconnects. Literally every few seconds. This is my first time using this app but I've been online with it for hours now and it hasn't dropped once. It's been brilliant. And before someone says it, no, I am normally paid reviewer. I recommend this based on today's performance.

This app is fantastic and works great! Honestly I was not expecting this level of excellence from a free app. The app is simple to use and has been very reliable and fast for me. The app connects very quickly to the VPN server that I select and holds the connection. I have used this app for several days straight and have not had any disconnects or issues. This app is the definition of greatness. Quick connection, doesn't require permissions (unless I've missed something), and the ads are more than bareable for the sheer quality of this app. It doesn't disconnect, it is reasonably fast (at least, I didn't notice any lags or other slowness), the UI is extremly nice, and why are you still reading this? Just install Opera, in my opinion it's the best vpn app on the playstore atbthe moment.
It seems legit. I mean, considering its free. Kinda slow. But as I said, its free. You can pey some coin for something better. I hear astrill is the best. I dunno tho. Astrill costs money. I go the poor boy way. If you don't mind spending some coin, go for astrill. If you a poor boy who can't afford extra expenses, you've come to the right place
It works, Thanks. I've only just used it for less than a month. I'm not giving 5 stars because of the very limited number of servers. But for a genuine "free" service, Opera VPN is great. Download and Upload speeds have been good at around 15 Mbps. This is much better than what I had hoped for. But I needed to use a server nearest to my country. Change to one on another continent and the speed drops to 1-2 Mbps. I'm just a casual user of VPN so I don't need all the bells and whistles. And with the US dollar's appreciation, I'm hesitant about subscribing to a paid service for now. Opera Free VPN has just helped me to save precious money. Could buy at least 40 kilograms of high quality rice with that :-)
Stops working, gets stuck, and can't restart it, leaving me vulnerable without knowing. I have uninstall and reinstall, until I find another free one. Why would I buy, if this is the marketing ploy? Some others are far worse with their ploy, true. Wonder if it does that when I open an Opera news feed? The browser has VPN too.
Can't beat the value, best free VPN offered to date! Edited 1.31.17,this little app keeps trying, and the improvements are most welcome. It can go off during heavy/peak traffic, but so many free users tend to make that happen. Still rate it 5* & an A+ for effort from the dev. Have patience and thanks for the fixes guys!
Works great but I really wish there was some way to automate the process. Wanted a way for it to automatically activate when I'm on specific networks (public) and not when I'm on others. I've installed it on both my partners phone but she's never gonna remember to switch on the VPN when she connects to Costa. And it's not practical to have it always on either because it affects casting so we just can't use it at home.
This connects to unsecured wifi and has good speed a well. It does slow things down on Play Movies and has to be turned off or it just gets frustrating. My biggest issue is that it always shuts itself off after a few minutes and has gotten SLOW. I checked it on ipleaks and it tested at dial-up speeds. At the time I was on LTE and running at 60 mbps with the VPN off. If it won't manage speeds or run, what good is it?
I lack some more info on how exactly this app works. Is it a true VPN or merely a proxy? Will it reroute ALL traffic or can it be circumvented? Still it's dead easy to use so given I'm confident it at least gives BETTER protection than none I'm giving it five stars.
The app looks awesome in general, but the speed kills it instantly. Whenever I have VPN, sometimes I can't even open a website, not even mentioning watching YT videos, don't even try. As soon I turn it off, my internet comes back good as before. So please fix the speed of your server, then this app will be perfect
The amount of ad traffic and ad tracker going to this app is shocking these days (Disconnect Pro for Samsung used for monitoring this). Do not pretend to protect users privacy when you are tracking them yourself. Introduce a onece-off paid version of the app and get rid of the ads.
The VPN app works 100% quickly and efficiently. However, on tablets & phones, the pages constantly move all over the place because of the loading of too much flash (pics, video, blocks of text, etc.). Touch a link and everything is out of whack. Note that this refers to the Mini version updated in Jan 2017.
This app may or may not do anything, there is no way to tell, except for its own assertion that with it you are A+ as opposed to a lower grade. On my phone, this app renders open wifi networks inaccessible and slows my own protected wifi network to less than a snail's pace, making any internet access virtually impossible. I could only get to the play store to write this by disconnecting the VPN app.
I can not get it to work. Whenever I open the app, I click the "got it" to get started button. However there is never a pop-up to OK and accept permissions. I have had VPNs in the past, but none of them work now. And I can't add them manually because I don't know the DNS and such
I've tried it with 3 different networks, its the same speeds!! The problem is on your side, I've already stopped using your VPNs both opera vpn and max... Don't think I'll be coming back anytime soon!! And this is not the first time I'm experiencing this!!

It is suggested that you try different wifi networks or try your mobile data to confirm if the speeds maintain. You may also want to try different regions too see if other regions closer to you are faster Slowest VPN. Hola's much faster! It's impossible to rate this app without disconnecting Opera VPN first! Can't even connect to any Google services, for example, no reminder: almost missing my flight because of this app! Taking up too much space just for a VPN!
Great UI but makes everything so painfully slow. It's extremely frustrating. I can't listen to music or watch videos without dealing with it buffering every few seconds. Internet security is important to me, but I don't have the time to deal with this every day during every task. Looking for a replacement.
I love this app and loved it before they enabled the persistence of the connection. Although, I am having trouble accessing the Internet recently from my web browser on my phone. Other web browsers I tried to use did fix it either. Time to investigate. Than you Opera!
This is the best VPN app I have used so far. It connects easily without unnecessary delays and remains connected for hours. My other 2 previously installed VPN apps were uninstalled for poor performance. I am sticking with this one. Good job and kudos to the developers.
Please rotate the app on tablets, also now 1 star because it is so SLOW!! Can't listen Pandora anymore because it buffers more than it plays. And it isn't even heavy on data... So disappointed..

I live in Turkey where many paid VPN's have been blocked. So far so good with this app. I have been using it quite successfully for several weeks on a Nexus 7 tablet (2013) and a Nexus 4 phone without any issues. Both devices are rooted and run alternative OS's, CyanogenMod and its successor, LineageOS. The VPN is not slow nor does it lag. It does for me what the developers claim. My 4 and not 5 star rating is only because I request more countries to select from, the UK being an omission. Thanks.
Seems to work for everyone else in this building (have consulted a few) except for me. Some of us even have the same phone. Will work when connected to home Internet but not school - but only for me. Doesn't seem to detect that I'm connected to the Internet (even with 4g on).
I have net speed of 1.25mb/s [10mbps] -> my network normally runs as fast as horse. As soon as I connect to this VPN, nothing loads. When I say 'nothing', I mean "NOTHING AT ALL". Also when it comes to securing data, This VPN literally uses worst encryption which can be easily penetrated by a pentester with 5 years of penetrating experience. Bugs, bugs, bugs & security flaws -> this is what I found in Opera Free VPN. I'd rather prefer buying a trustworthy one rather then depending on free VPN.
Great app. I've only had it for a day but it is free and seems to work really well. My only complaint is that you always have to have a notification saying the app is active. This kind of gets in the way. I hope in the future you can make the notification thing optional. Anyways it's a great product. Cheers
Used to run well and it WAS my favorite VPN app as I ESPECIALLY LOVED the MATERIAL DESIGN! NOW , it continues to constantly run in the background even when it's disconnected along with a STUPID sticky notification that reads "US-Opera VPN". And BEFORE you tell me to go to the apps settings and turn that option off, well guess what.... I ALL READY DID and it STILL doesn't change anything! I DO NOT have always on VPN in my settings either & the only way I can stop it from DRAINING my battery now is to "Force Stop & Clear The Data" from my settings every time AFTER I am done using it. What a shame this problem has turned this app into GARBAGE - UNINSTALLED IT!!!!
It doesn't actually do what it claims to. My ip address, phone OS, screen resolution etc are all available to anyone who wants to know. That's a complete failure of VPN.
Seems to be a good VPN, best of all it's free. I'm sure they are monetizing my data somehow, but I accept the fact. Sometimes it is slow, sometimes a website or app will hang, and then I have to turn it off. Good for free.
App does not work on Chromebooks. I asked Opera for help they said that it wasn't supported for Chromebooks. Since it doesn't work ,I think it should be removed from the Chromebook Play Store. I wanted to try it because Opera VPN works great on my android phone, easy to install, simple interface and effective.

Apologies for any confusion or frustration. While the Android apps have become available to Chromebook users, android apps will not affect applications native to the Chrome OS e.g the Chrome browser. Opera VPN would only affect Android OS applications. To avoid confusion we will be removing our application from Chrome devices on the Play Store. I think it's a great app. It's very very rare rare to find a product that actually works without having to jump through hoops and clickbait and anything else that you would never put up with in real life. I would recommend your product to anyone
Ok VPN limited servers which when a server gets overwhelmed it kicks you out the VPN, also does nothing for DNS logging and anonymity which also leads to your iPod being leashed trackable. Great to use of your in a pinch aka public hot spot but no good for blocking the government or ad trackers or a crazy ex who can hack.
Definitely not to be used if you would like to anonymously access the Internet. According to their privacy policy OperaVPN "collects usage data, like website addresses (but not the content of web pages) and IP address locations". Two things a privacy conscious VPN should never collect or retain. If you know what website I accessed, how difficult would it be to figure out the content of the web page I accessed?? Just wow...

Opera VPN collects anonymous data about how people use their mobile device, It’s important to understand that this is not data about what you do with your phone, but rather this is data about how a large group of people use their phones. Recent changes appear to have fixed disconnection problems. Pretty good for a free product. However it seems like sometimes it interferes with wifi sign-in pages. You have to turn it off to get them to appear. Also have noticed connections are sometimes slower or stopped and you have to change regions to get your connection back. Finally it appears to increase power consumption. But for a free product... Pretty good.
Still isn't working on Nexus 6p cant get pass the start screen. I can hit the skip button, but it isn't registering on the "got it" button! So can't proceed
It worked great until every attempt to use Google for searches made them think I was a robot. Made doing searches on Google very very frustrating. It's a total pain to have a Captcha appear for each and every search. Uninstalled and Google searches work fine. Uninstalled. Will try other VPN's
