Not really sure I was instructed by my school to do so. It was in case they hit their head we could determine how severe it was. I did a few run throughs and telling me to see a professional and that I should seek help after every single one seems to defeat the purpose. I do like how you can keep reports, which is nice so you can ensure proper follow-up procedures at the school is followed.
Good App This app has a lot of good features for assessment, record keeping, and tracking of concussions for multiple players/incidents. Great for coaches and parents alike. I'd recommend putting access to the tutorial video in a more prominent location, like the home page; it was very useful in getting familure with the features of this app. One issue: I couldn't get the ACE concussion guide to load properly using my Android (smartphone) device. Please fix. Other than that, this is a great app.
Ace instructions not working Google docs opens when you click on 'ACE take home instructions' it's just a bunch of coding. Doesn't work. This is super important!!!
PRO: The tool offers a nice step-by-step walk-through of hat to ask and look for in case of a blow to the head. CON: EVERYTHING comes back with "Concussion suspected". If you open this app, it will tell you to pull the player. The test is so prone to false positives that the result should not be relied upon at all. It cannot be stressed enough that THIS IS WORSE THAN NO APP. Concussions are serious. However, if we treat every minor incident like it's a concussion, our players will learn to under-report for fear of being pulled uselessly. Think "boy who cried wolf" - if the app always says the kid is doomed even if he isn't, are you going to trust it the 10% of the time it's right?
used to crash, fixed, great customer service! UPDATE: Originally not happy as app crashed when attempting to perform home monitoring, however, I contacted the company, actually spoke to a human (!), and w/in a week they fixed the problem, and even called me back to let me know the problem was fixed. Wow! Thanks for the great service and now very useful app! ORIGINAL REVIEW: purchased because my son had a minor concussion and thought it would help to monitor him, however, once i do the first home monitoring, every time i try to do it again the app just crashes. also, despite having paid for it, there is a constant stream of advertisements running across the bottom. i would not recommend this app to anyone.
