I received the Rearvision on Feb 20th, so I have only been using the device for a few days. So far so good! I love it. The automatic app launch when you place phone on the mount is awesome. I am an Android user with a Samsung S6 Active and it take only a few secs for the rearveiw image to pop up. I have had no issues yet with the phone recognizing the device's wifi network. One thing I have noticed is the sync happens more seamlessly when the car is started first and then I place the phone on the mount. I am very impressed with the quality of the phone mount and clip. It is not some flimsy piece of crap plastic. I highly recommend setting up the guidelines. The lines superimposed in the display is a good feature. Good job Pearl!
The concept is great however my suspicion as an early adaptor was confirmed when I received the frame. App often freezes serving "something went wrong" or it can't connect to Wi-Fi. It takes on average 7 seconds to launch. Ideally they should be able to detect when vehicle is in reverse from OBDII. My car doesn't have a factory camera so this was the best least invasive option on the market. Android seems not to get the love like iOS in terms updates. It irked me that it says made for iPhone on the box.
The video quality is excellent during both day and night. There was bug in accessing camera several times in previous version, but it improved a lot in current version. Auto launch function works 4 out of 5 times for me when attaching to the magnet mount. I wish the proximity alert will work even without launching the app on the phone
I love it
For me five-minute jobs usually take up to 3 days to complete but not this install. I literally had this working in 5 minutes flat. Love the picture quality; it's amazingly clear even at night. Glad I finally got into settings and realized I could change the apps that are displayed along with the camera app. And that I could auto-launch the app or change the view by just touching the screen. This product just gets better and better.
You are forced to a menu of other apps after backing up which is annoying when you want control back of your phone. I asked the pearl rep if they could make displaying of the app menu optional, but they said no it is required. Why would that be, why would they make us fight with their app when we should be driving. If we wanted to go to another app, all our phones allow us to do this. Is pearl getting a payment from these other vendors?
