When it asked to link to my bank, I gave my info and it was saying my bank wanted to ask security questions. They were random questions that I've never seen or answered before and it didn't give the option to back out. So I typed just one random letter and it said that it worked. Very fishy. I don't think I trust this app.

I haven't gotten to use it yet, it doesn't support my bank yet, but just getting getting through the first bit of it was neat lol I will hopefully get to use this later, I hope it can help me. It seems like a nice app.

Penny is a very useful app. It takes your spending information and lays it out for you in different graphs and offers digestible bits of information. Support is also amazing, and really shows that these folks are working so hard to give us this app. I can't wait to see what Penny brings in the future.

I was very upset that it doesnt support any other prepaid card other than tush card. I need it to take moneynetwork. It was a pleasant app but without that feature its useless for me. As i do not have a bank account.

This app seemed pretty awesome, until it asked for my social security number, bank account number AND and bank password. There's absolutely no reason thats needed to understand my finances, and have less of a chance getting my info stolen just using a calculator and paper to figure things out.

Seems to help out so far. Shows me how much I'm projected to have for 'spending money' each month which is what I wanted, but it seems like it's a day behind. Any way to fix this?

Hey Bree, we take security and data privacy very seriously at Penny, and never try and ask you for more than is necessary. Your bank login is only ever used to connect to your statements. Some banks need you to verify who you say you are, so they may ask for more. If you shoot us an email at support@pennyapp.io we can look into this for you though. Seems to help out so far. I tried it, and its just not for me. Yhe concepr is pretty cool. But I didnt really use it. The only thing is that it doesnt give you the opsion to delete you info. And account.

You can delete your account by going to your Settings, tapping "Give Feedback" and then "Close account". Sorry that it wasn't more clear. Alternatively, if you email us at support@pennyapp.io we can do it for you. I nolonger recommend nor use this application, it just doesn't work for me. I need to re-verify and revalidate EVERY time i use penny or open it (to sync with my bank?) No to much hassle, easier to just track my spending on a EXCEL spread sheet, and categorize my expenses myself. Installed on Oct 2nd 2016 updated review on May 11th 2017

Well I really want to try this app out but it won't let me log into my becu account even though I can do it through their app just fine. Any ideas or help?

Sorry you're having issues with connecting your BECU account. If you haven't already, mind shooting us an email at support@pennyapp.io? We'd be happy to help. I am a rapid swiper so I am so happy to now see what I spend my money on. I usually for get all the things I buy and wonder what's missing from my account. This helps me realize what I spend and how I can cut back on random purchases.
If your bank doesn't show up you can't use it. I'm not going to waste my time on this thing.
I Freaking love this app!! Sooooooo amazing! I've got my checking and savings hooked up and I wish I could connect my second savings account with Barclays, an online savings account (1.00% app! 🤑🤑) I put about $20 in there every week from every paycheck, don't notice it missing. Savings has been hard for me, (separate account from my Credit Union will likely make it harder for me to want to use that...) not making enough, but time will make that better. 😀 Another thing I'd like to see this app distinguish is income vs refunds and cash deposits not getting counted as income. This messes up my monthly income which remains the same depending on whether there are 4 or 5 paydays in the month. I'm going to be upgrading to the paid subscription soon because this is the one app which I have really liked, level money is ok, just started using it, Mint won't get all my bills registered (annoying). ❤❤❤ this app!! Ps And I love the goals part!! Wish I could get daily notifications on much I've spent....
From what i can tell, customer support is really responsive and thats gonna be 65% of my review. i gave a 3 ⭐⭐⭐ for interface and support. will rate again in a few weeks after use...
I've been waiting almost a week and it keeps saying my transactions haven't been sent. Very very suspicious.

While I can definitely understand how that seems suspicious, the real reason why that's happening is that it's hard to manage so many connections with all the different banks in the US, and our connection to your bank is probably having some temporary issues. I saw you're already in touch with us, so hopefully we can fix that for you! Really sad that it won't accept my bluebird account info that is one of my main cards but it's ok

In order to really get any use of this app, you have to pay monthly which I do not wish to do. You are given 5 categories to start but if your spending habits don't fit into those categories you will need to pay.

We really do think you can get a lot of value out of Penny without the extra categories (most people use Penny without them!), so that's generally where we suggest you start. If you know you want those extra categories though, we'd be happy to let you try them out for a while for free—just shoot us an email! support@pennyapp.io Well I use to love this thing but now it won't link either account I have one I understand the other I don't so deleting penny
Innovative and easy to use. Friendly and relaxed. The possibilities are endless. Maybe in the future they will do investment allocation etc.

We actually support over 8,000 banks and cards! (It turns out there are a lot of them in the US...) Were there any banks in particular you wanted to link? Let us know at support@pennyapp.io and we can double check for support on our end. Love the app! I can see what i have in my account and what i owe on my credit cards still! Makes it so much easier to look in one place than go to each site to see. However, it seems to make me log in multiple times to my bank/credit card accounts which makes me very unsure about it! And it will ask the same security questions over and over even if i put the right answer in the first time. Other than that, it's an awesome app. Overall i absolutely love the app!!!
This app is pretty good, does what they claim. They make it a priority to say that they take security seriously by using a 256 bit encryption - yet when you actually connect with your bank, on the bottom it says they use the 128AES but algorithm. So I wonder what part is wrong, or if they really are using 128 but advertising 256

Thanks for pointing that out! Penny actually uses encryption in multiple places: some with 256-bit and some with 128-bit, depending on the context. Either way, you're protected on multiple fronts :) Let us know at support@pennyapp.io if you still have questions! Phishing? I can log into my websites with my info, but this app keeps telling me the information or question I entered was incorrect or "so and so" didn't recognize it. So I try again, same exact answers and info and it goes through? Yeah, no. I know my info, it's not wrong. This app is crap and it failed to communicate info with my bank which is sketchy.

Hey Andrew - Really sorry about the poor experience. Unfortunately, getting transactions from banks isn't the easiest process and so it sometimes doesn't work. I really like this app. Easy to see my spending activity and arranges it into broad categories. They are trying to improve their services and even offer premium if you'd like more in deph detailing of your spending. I like this in comparison to complicated apps where you have to manually input all your spending, bulls, etc. This helps makes things simple.
I am unable to link my bank to my account so I will be uninstalling. says it was able to find the account but unable to verify my security questions even though I know they are correct. super bummed! was really looking forward to using it.

As someone who used to use my card on every purchase, this app has helped me stop that by the feature that notifies you of a purchase. Definitely made me not want to spend as much.
I just started it. It hasn't linked to my bank account yet but that's no issue. I just can't happen to find PeoplesBank for MA on the app and I wonder if it will come about?
Its taken 5 days to get my information and still hadn't ... i was really excited about the app now im just dissaponited

It's simple to use, but keeps track of everything I need to know. Not to mention Penny's cute personality.
I need to launder my money from various sources and it doesnt take that money into consideration.
It's simple yet had everything I need. It's great to see and compare spending on categories.
