BGait (Balanced Gait Test) is a scientific application for quantitative gait analysis using only your smartphone.
Developed by PhedesLab, it allows therapists and researchers to measure gait balance, symmetry, and homogeneity quickly and accurately — without the need for external sensors or motion-capture systems.
The app uses the phone’s built-in accelerometers to record three-axis motion while walking. From these signals, it calculates a complete set of 16 parameters describing the degree of balance and regularity in the gait cycle. These include symmetry and homogeneity of step duration and acceleration, cadence, power, and a global index called Balance Degree (0–100), which summarizes the overall stability of walking.
*What BGait offers*
Objective measurement of balance and symmetry while walking
Scientific accuracy comparable to laboratory systems
Immediate feedback with an easy-to-read textual and graphical report
Free version showing Balance Degree
Premium version including full parameter list, radar charts, and secure online sharing with your therapist
*How to use it*
Place your smartphone in a belt bag at the waist, facing forward.
Open BGait and tap Start Test.
After listening the bell, walk naturally for several seconds until the ending sound again.
Review your Balance Degree and graphical results.
You can repeat the test anytime to monitor your progress or compare different walking conditions. For more precise assessment, repeat the test three times and use the best result. Note that the balance of walking is afected by a set of phisical and psichological factors.
*Who is it for*
Rehabilitation professionals monitoring recovery after injury or surgery
Neurologists and geriatric specialists assessing fall risk and gait disorders
Researchers and teachers studying locomotor patterns
Active users interested in improving their gait balance and symmetry
*Key features*
Simple and quick test (less than two minutes)
16 gait parameters based on symmetry and homogeneity
