Review from IngMarc Reedijk
I love my lights and the entertainment is a huge step for the app, but it would be best to have the app perform as an all in one unit. Third party apps for party/disco lights is not the best. Also, after the update there has been an error regarding the controlling device not being connected to the internet, even when it is (not affecting all app features i.e turning lights on/off and changing color).
V1 was miles better. This app is garbage. The inability to group lights while moving is probably the biggest loss. Making scenes with lots of lights is super slow in comparison to the 1st gen controller. It connects fine and the timer functions are accurate, so its not like it's totally unusable. But the user nterface needs some love IMHO.
The app is a total mess, it is impossible to find anything. Why not two tabs, hardware and routines? Plus, after aeons of waiting, at last philips implement sunrise and sunset! Hardly cutting edge! The lights are all too dim, too. Edit 10 Jan 2018: More fluff, little substance.
When are we going to see a 'remember settings' option? It is very, very annoying coming home when it's dark and then being blinded by 4 Hue spots on maximum bright white light every night. For lamps this expensive, you would expect them to remember the last brightness and color...
Lights work fine but the app, routines and automation don't work. Overall the wake up and Home & Away stopped working which is very annoying and not what you expect for the price tag. It will be great to arrive home and have the lights on as you advertise. The app UI needs as well a revamp as the "labs" tab is not very user friendly.
-It's an easy app to use and the synchronization with the Hue bridge and lights is easy and fast. The setup of new light bulbs and accessories too. The remote control from away works every time but with a couple of seconds delay. -The timers and schedules is a nice touch but not easy and intuitive to program but when done correctly they work every time. -What I would like to see included in the future is ability to control the fade in/out of the lights as well as the colour they fade in/out. e.g.: To set the lights to turn on at a specific time set to bright white while fading in from yellow and when is time to turn off to fade out with blue. -One more would be the option to pair all ready paired light bulbs, accessories and lights to different groups. e.g.: I have set 4 lights in the hallway as a group and a Hue bloom in the same group. I would like to be able to pair the Hue bloom to a different group of lights so I can be able to set different schedules.
