About this app

Learning Hiragana and Katakana becomes much more effective when targeted repetition is combined with active recall. This app is built around that principle and offers a structured approach that goes far beyond simple flashcards or static quizzes. With an adaptive spaced-repetition system, it adjusts review intervals to your actual memory performance and supports steady, long-term progress without unnecessary frustration.

Two complementary learning modes allow different types of practice. Multiple Choice provides a quick, accessible way to get started and helps build early familiarity with the characters. Self-Assessment focuses on active recall, one of the most effective methods for strengthening long-term retention. Both modes work closely with the adaptive algorithm, which schedules repetitions precisely when they are most useful.

All content is organized into clear categories that follow traditional structures: Hiragana and Katakana are divided into gojūon, yōon, and their dakuten and handakuten variations. Each character can be practised in multiple directions, including Character → Romaji, Romaji → Character, Character → Pronunciation, and Pronunciation → Character. This provides a complete learning experience that supports both recognition and accurate reading.

During each learning session, questions are repeated until every item has been answered correctly at least once. Incorrect answers do not reset overall progress. Instead, the repetition interval is adjusted realistically, keeping your learning flow consistent without unnecessary setbacks.

The app also includes structured tests for each combination of category and question type. These tests offer a reliable picture of your current skill level. Depending on your performance, you can earn silver or gold medals, and tests can be repeated at any time.

Categories and question types can be freely enabled or disabled without losing progress. All flashcards can be browsed and searched for quick reference. The app supports multiple languages, allowing you to learn in the environment you find most comfortable.

This creates a clear and efficient learning path for anyone who aims to truly master Hiragana and Katakana with confidence.

I actually really like this. simple, easy to configure which you want to practice and how, and the voice is clear. Edit: used more, to my surprise for such a hidden app—its VERY good! I love the timer and how it adds partial over time and repeats ones u messed up on later rather than immediately. Simple UI, not cluttered. Ads are unintrusive & play AFTER a session not during. I'd be more than willing to pay for an option to create our own cards with this, as I'd love to make kanji ones.

Cool app. nice and repetitive for good learning. However have discovered A LOT of the audio is missing from from the questions. So youre pretty much wasting time guessing from no audio.. please fix!

Thanks for the kind words. Sorry about the missing audio. This seems to affect only a small number of Android devices, but I’ve just released a fix that should resolve it. Please update to the latest version and try again. If the issue still happens, let me know your device model and Android version and I’ll take another look.

Could you fix a small defect please: "shi" in katakana has the example word "terebi", basically a word without "shi".
