About this game

Can you drive the Secessionist into the Fort Sumter trap that gave Lincoln his historic victory? Can you successfully use the issue of States Rights to divide Northern opinion? Fort Sumter let’s you explore this seminal moment in American history in a fast-playing, easy-to-learn game.

The country is on the verge of being torn apart so how will you act? Fort Sumter: The Secession Crisis is set during the events that led to the bombardment of Fort Sumter and the start of the American Civil War. The game takes the side of either a Unionist or Secessionist who must work to preserve the Union or follow the path to dissolve it.

Each player uses an area control mechanic to place, move, and remove political capital. The location of political capital determines who controls each of the four crisis dimensions - Political, Secession, Public Opinion, and Armaments. After three rounds of play, the game culminates in a Final Crisis confrontation.

Pretty deep little game. Played about a dozen times so far, against a friend, and it's been a lot of fun. I haven't really tried playing the AI yet. At least as of v1.0.2, there's a tiny flaw in the way the cards are discarded when the Event Discard optional rule is enabled. But the dev team knows about it and is working on it. Anyway, great game and port, deserves way more notice than it seems to get.

With almost no interest in the period and relatively little knowledge of the events, this game has spurred me on not just to play it continuously, but to find the historical material just a little bit cooler. This is a game that's simple to learn, but rich in interesting choices. It's easy to get heavily invested despite its short length. It should also definitely appeal to anybody who likes solo board gaming, and it seems especially dope for people who like to play with history.

A surprisingly fun game with an interesting mechanic. The app is nothing more than it needs to be and is cleanly presented. If the US civil war theme doesn't interest you, it is mostly aesthetic and won't impact your enjoyment of the game underneath. I haven't lost to the AI yet despite only just learning the game, but every match has been very tightly contested. Recommended for the low price.
