So far so good... Over the last three evenings I: repurposed an old XP workstation to run Plex Server on Mythbuntu, installed Plex app on three new Android phones and a Motorola Xoom, started to build our libraries, and managed to solve a myriad of technical issues, thanks to Plex and Ubuntu communities. The result is an awesome streaming music service for home and away. Would have been 5 stars but for the afore mentioned issues.
Great app The only complaint that I have is that when your music is in FLAC or 320 (which must of mine is), it doesn't lower the but rate and chews through a bunch of data. It does pretty much everything else though!
Broken for music Primarily, the big showstopper for me is that Android supports FLAC format, which my library is in, but disabling Direct Stream and Direct Play in theory should prevent Plex from trying to stream in the original format my audio is in. 6mb per one minute of audio makes it clear this is not working. My needs are entirely for mobile access to music at this stage. Aside from this showstopper, reading ratings tags from music and having a little more playlist ability would make Plex a lot more useful for music
Paid for app, still have to pay for sync I don't mind paying for an app, I don't mind paying for extra features for that app as they become necessary. I very much mind not being able to download a few videos from my local server, while connected to the same router, without paying 4 or 5 bucks a month.
It's good, but can't control plex on xbox one Only thing I'm really missing is a way to control plex on xbox one with this app. I can control plex on my tablets, phones, nexus player and cast to chromecast, but can't cast to plex on xbox one or control it at all. This is very irritating. Only app I'm using on xbox one the phone app cent control. Can use xbox smart glass to control x1,youtube app on phone to control youtube on my xbox, but plex can't do that? That doesn't seem to be very 2016 to be honest...
Not perfect, but close I would like to see a better music player, options to see file types, aka flac, mp3. Also problems on my wired network (10 GB) where Plex has problems playing high def, large files like 4 k movies and with DTS and Atmos audio files in the movie. But over all it is really the only good program that is also supported by manufacturers with it as a app on TVs.
- Reorder repeat modes to match other platforms.
- Improved fling support for libraries that combine home photos and videos.
- [Android TV] Various improvements to interface and user experience.
- Looking for the friendly device name could cause a crash on launch.
- Playing a video from a mixed photos and videos library could crash the app.
- [Android TV] Updating large libraries could crash the app.
