We asked, and Plex delivered; doesn't get much better than that. And it worked great right from the first release build! I expect more goodies and fixes as time goes on, just like with any new app. Way to go, Plex team!
Anyone complaining about this app is a straight up ungrateful douche bag. I'm sorry but as a lifetime plex pass holder I can tell you 100% that I was the first person to start a thread asking for this functionality (REDIR) and I can tell you as a matter of fact that this is PROOF positive that the PLEX team is committed to their users, and their lifetime plex pass subscribers because they made this app. Being able to lay down is important, and I'm sure they will adjust it like they adjust all their apps. You can definitely adjust it on the ceiling then lay down after you lock it down, which is consistent with my Gear VR experiences a few years ago. Anyone complaining about it not working on anything other than Google Daydream View can't read. That isn't the PLEX Team's responsibility. This is a HUGE STEP in the right direction for PLEX and I can't tell you how GRATEFUL I am that they took it. 1Luv guys.
Can't get it to work with Google Cardboard or Unofficial Cardboard.
Should be able to use while laying down, otherwise I would just watch on tv
Good, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Plex is great for how it organises movies and TV shows and as always it does that very well. The thing with this is that it has direct competition - skybox, and to put it bluntly, as of now it isn't as good. More environments, better screen, and generally more options. The only thing inferior is that it has no organization for movies which Plex has. Put more into this and it will be excellent, the "multiplayer"thing is a good idea, as is the interaction with the environment. It just needs a bit more to match up.
In its current state, I would say find another solution for watching your Plex library in VR. At the moment, the VR environment they offer is very cartoony. The app also doesn't perform well in most cases. VR is all about immersion and these issues don't provide that in this case.
- Redesigned launcher icons.
- Application logs can now be shared using 'Support' action in settings.
- Playback controls were too low for 180 and 360 content.
- Skipping ahead during playback would reset the stereo and projection modes.
- Headphones being plugged in or out were not detected during a Watch Together session.
- Don't show 'share with friends?' dialog before playback if playing local content.
- Hide 'This Device' server during a Watch Together session.
