Better controls needed Everything is good. Please add the possibility to set pitch choosing it from the list. The same for tempo, volume, etc. Currently the controls are inconvinient.
Try out the demo before buying Decent app. Has a good number of taals. The instrument sound quality is decent to bad. The tabla sounds really weird at some pitches. Sounds decent for A#, so that works for me. Your mileage may vary. The sound quality can be problematic with teentaal, where dha and dhin can be indistinguishable. Traka isn't nice. Settings reset at startup. No lehra support. Best in the market though. Right it's good enough to practice vocals with, for me. Try out the demo and see if it works for you before purchasing
Started well, but where are the improvements? My disappointment is that the app started out so well, but then appears have fizzled out. Two updates in Oct 2012, two in Nov, two in Jan, very impressive. And then not a single one till date (May 2013)? Lost interest in this venture, have you? Specific grouses, all commanding the highest priority: 1. The Tabla sound SUX, as many others have pointed out. The Bayan is inaudible, generally the samples seem to be very low bitrate ones. Also, at certain pitches the sound morphs into something weird. 2. Surprised nobody's pointed this out so far, but the Tabla's tuned pretty badly. I cannot tolerate playing it in conjunction with the inbuilt Tanpura app, at least at C#. I've devised a workaround: I loop a C# Tanpura clip on my mp3 player, set the Tabla to C#, then reduce pitch by some 38 cents (!), and only then do I get a semblance of surelapan. 3. Sliders are a pain. Please add up/down buttons. 4. Laya increments of 5 BPM is not a good idea, especially at low tempos. Only one interval between 10 BPM and its dugun? If these observations are addressed satisfactorily, we'll have a truly killer app in our hands. I'll surely revise my ratings and review then. That's a promise!
Outstanding value for only $4.99! I Outstanding value for only $4.99! I do not review many apps or books. In general I find people expecting the world for $1.99 or $4.99 and then whining because the app or book is not a master piece rather pathetic. In this case after reading the reviews on pieces of equipment that cost near $140, and hearing a few horror stories, I decided to give this app a try. I admit the free demo got on my nerves so I made the full purchase. I had some difficulty at first as I am only a beginner at sitar and new to Indian music. But after playing with the app and learning to count along, I don’t see how anyone could possibly get more value for the price. I had one small issue. At one the speeds I got a feedback beep every cycle. I change the speed and it went away. Naturally if you are on an android you need to plug into a decent pair of speakers. A person only needs a little common sense on that one. From what I see so far, it is an outstanding app and well worth the $4.99. If I change my mind I will adjust this review.
Great app, needs a few fixes Great features for a little app! Tabla sound is very authentic but needs a stronger "Sam"; tends to hide away in the loop. Could also use some 8 and 14 beat bhajan taals. Tanpura feels low def.. Not rich enough. Most importantly, doesn't allow to be moved to SD card! Needs urgent fixing!
