About this app

Artists are constantly inspired by the world around them! The Popwalk smartphone app gives artists a platform to display their digital works of art in any specific location that the artworks are intended for. The world really is a stage and Popwalk gives artists the ability to create artwork for anywhere on that stage. Popwalk exhibits many kinds of art; video, performance, dance, music, animation, and other time-based media. Here is how it works:
The Popwalk app displays a map that tells you where artists have “placed” their works of art. You can see a description of the works from any location, but can only see the videos when you go to the location of exhibition. Follow the map to the location, information on the specific artwork page will tell you where the artist wants you to be, to see the work of art. Popwalk will enable you to watch the work, but only when you arrive at the intended location.
Artists can place their works anywhere! To submit a work of art to Popwalk, the artist goes to the website www.popwalkapp.com to register as an artist. After the artwork is made, it can be submitted through the artist tab on the website. Instructions are given for how to submit the work on that page. The work is then juried and put up on the app. It is that simple!

The works exhibited through Popwalk are meant to be seen in specific locations. It is important that the works create a serious and thoughtful connection to the place in which they are exhibited. This means that the location in which the works are exhibited enriches and establishes the idea, meaning, and/or interpretation of the artwork. The viewer should see the location through new eyes after having seen your artwork, and the artwork should be enriched by being viewed within the location. An important part of the curatorial process for this project is whether or not the work makes a thoughtful and serious connection to the location of display.

All submissions must comply with Popwalk’s Terms of Use and, just like most juried exhibitions, there is a jurying fee for submitting work to Popwalk. Submission does not ensure acceptance of work or that work will be displayed in perpetuity. If your work is accepted for exhibition, you will be notified by through the communication portal in the website.

Very frustrating to use. Not sure why you need a login in order to visit public art. Login authentication appears disabled. Interesting idea but needs work.
