If you want to learn photography, then the 'Photography Tutor in Your Pocket' app will help you to take successful photos with your camera straight away, even if you're going 'off auto' for the first time.
It's like having a photography expert standing right next to you while you're out with the camera, telling you which buttons to press and which settings to use for each type of shot you take, and why. Which is ideal if you find that you forget everything you’ve read at home as soon as you walk out the door!
Read the 'Basic Settings' and 'Initial Set-up' sections first, then use the ‘Take a Picture’ section for specific advice on what settings to use for different types of shots - including Daytime Landscapes, Sunrises and Sunsets, Daytime Urban, Individual Portraits, Groups of People, Night-time Urban (with and without a tripod), Moving Subjects, and shooting with and without a Blurry Background. More image types will be added in later versions, based on feedback.
You will find links to more detailed information throughout each section, and all of this content is also available in the 'More Information' area of the PTiYP app.
BACKGROUND
I've been taking photos for over 50 years, and teaching photography since 2017. Some time ago one of my clients said, "I wish I could have you standing next to me all the time while I'm out with the camera, telling me what to do." and that got me thinking. What if this was actually possible? I can't always be there in person of course, but if I could provide a similar level of support in another way, it could be very helpful for people who are learning how to use a camera for the first time. And so 'Photography Tutor in Your Pocket' was born.
It is not designed to be an exhaustive photography course in its own right, which covers every subject in minute technical detail – but instead, is designed to be used alongside any other sources of tuition you may have come across. In short, it bridges the gap between the information you might read online at home, and what you actually need to do while you’re out 'in the field' – often literally! It also contains links to longer tuition documents, to give added context to the advice in the app itself.
